Trying to slide into maintenance

Monday, April 16, 2012

In my last blog, I said I did not make my final goal weight by April 15. It's no biggie, as I have only 2 pounds to go, but it got me thinking about what maintenance entails. I've read other people's accounts of trying to figure out what their calorie intake should be for maintenance, and decided to try easing my way there. So today, I took those last 2 pounds and set the goal for the end of May. My nutrition page has a new calorie range on it, so I have at least an estimate of what my daily intake should look like. Was hoping for 2000 calories, but the top of the range right now is 1770. Guess that means I need to get some more exercising into my days!

The hardest part of maintenance is learning to release some of the rigid controls while learning to trust yourself not to gain or slack off on the exercise. Its all about balance, harmony, and being at peace with yourself (you won't find that in the calorie range!! ha!).

Giving yourself to the end of May will probably help you to see what level of calories work for you. Best of luck and well done for being down to the last two pounds!!

I remember way back when I was a member of Weight Watchers, maintenance was an increase of about 300-500 calories. At the time I was burning an enormous amount of energy through exercise--not something that I will ever do again.
Celia, you will find your way. Your body will defionately know how many calories it can handle. What an exciting place to be--preparing for maintenance. WOOHOO (I'm getting better at them--that was a loud one)
Do you have other friends who are maintaining? If not, I can direct you to some of my sparkfriends who are. Let me know. Anything to support you, sweetheart.
