Darn you, Hills!

Yesterday I ran (and walked a bit) the Iowa AIDS 5k in Des Moines' South of Grand Neighborhood. I ran the same course last fall (read about it here: www.sparkpeople.com/mypa

) and yesterday's race was a LOT easier.

That said, it was still VERY HARD. Darn you, hills!

The course starts with a pretty dramatic downhill slope (especially for this Illinois girl), followed by a mix of uphill/downhill (although more up than down), then a gigantic hill followed by relatively flat road.

Gaa.

I haven't been running in ages, but I HAVE been working out a LOT. I just finished week five of Kosama (www.kosama.com), a 5-6 day/week training program that's killing me (and making me a lot stronger.)

So, I was really curious to see how I'd do at the race.

Well, my time was faster ...but only by about 15 seconds. However, I didn't feel like I was going to throw up, and I ran more than I did before. And, my recovery time was a lot shorter.

So, success!

I'm curious to know how I'd do on a flat course. Time to get running again!

Next up is the Drake Relays Off-the-Roads 8k. An 8k - geeze, I don't know if I'm ready for that again...
