So I do my weigh-ins every Saturday. Last week's had me really down since I was only down 0.2lbs which really is nothing (though it is better than +0.2). I had a somewhat negative attitude this week as a result. This upset my boyfriend and while he was trying to help me we ended up having a fight about it. It is so much easier for men to lose weight, and I have so much more weight to lose than him and then he realizes that I do. He acts like this is something that will be done with by the end of the year, which for him may be true (and by done with I mean losing weight but we'd still continue to be healthy and active). It's frustrating for me Anyway, so I was worried that this week would continue in my first plateau, but instead I lost 2.2lbs!!
On a side note, my mom is coming to visit soon, and we will probably go out to eat a bunch. This worries me... I hope I can keep my eating habits in line!

Well my mom will be here for about a week so that is like a week of trying to balance eating out a lot since we will be out and about in the city and staying on track with my calorie counter.
As for my current exercise, I try to do as much walking as possible, since I am just starting out and there is a limit to what I am able to do. In order to get free parking, I park fairly far from my lab, so I end up with 30 minutes of very hilly walking every week day (although this really sucks when it gets to be 110F out in the summer). I try not to count that towards my weekly exercise count though. I live in an area that has a lot of things to walk to and is relatively safe, which makes me more likely to go for walks then to just go walk in a circle path (which I do still sometimes do). I walk to the mall (there's two within walking distance), movie theater, Starbucks (I'm a serious iced chai tea latte addict, I always budget room for my fix!), and many restaurants (we usually end up going to Panera despite the HUGE choice of restaurants since they have their calorie counts on the menu and many healthy choices). I've walked to Bed Bath and Beyond to shop too! I made a "present list" for every 5 lbs that I lose. So, every time I get a reward present, I walk to get it! We own an elliptical, but I don't like it for some reason. Luckily, my apartment complex has a free gym, so I use the ellipticals there to fill in what I need for the week that my walking doesn't get and to change it up. Also, my knee has been bothering me i think from all the hill walking, so the elliptical is better on my knee on days it hurts.
My favorite exercise if swimming; thus, my mentioning it for you! I've been a waterbug my entire life, and I swam on the varsity team in high school. The problem is that I don't have easy access to a pool. Northern Virginia is one of the most expensive areas in the US, and they charge outrageous amounts for community center/YMCA/private pool memberships. I just can't afford it on my graduate student stipend sadly. My first year of graduate school they paid for the university health center which had a pool, but after that they didn't, and I can't afford it now. Hopefully I can get back into it once I leave this city.
I have a Wii fit, but I have found that the aerobic activities on it just aren't enough, so I only use it for my weigh-ins since it has a nice tracking system. I also like the balance exercises, since I need serious help in that field too! I was considering getting a wii workout game like Biggest loser or Zumba once I have lost more weight and need a change.

you lost 2.2 lbs!!!!
I only lost 0.2 lbs for the last 2 weeks. Yes, I have less weight too lose than you but it has been a long journey for me. I still am anxious for every weigh-in (also on Saturdays). The last 2 weeks I was on vacation and before coming home, my fiance really had to stay cool, because I was freaking out about today's weigh in... but it went well.
He thinks I don't need to loose any weight anymore and actually does not know whether he should support me or sabotage me.
I get the support I need here on sparks and this keeps me focused.
Don't worry about going out for brunch! I am sure you know what to do. I always think -live by the 80% / 20% rule. 80% of healthy, good eating and 20% of ... well... what ever you want to. Make this brunch your 20% and be very good the other days of the week and you will be fine!
What is your workout plan? What kind of exercise do you like?
Have a great Sunday!
