Some to do things done

Friday, April 13, 2012

So I've casually asked for my job description and asked my former supervisor for permission to use her as a business contact. This supervisor is leaving in July and has noted the demolished moral in our division and understands. When I get a "private" moment I will be asking for permission to use the state officers I interact with on a daily basis if I can use them as business references as well. I suspect that one of the state officers will offer me a job at that moment - she has been casually asking about how I'm enjoying things, have I thought about a new job, etc... If I went that route there would be request for more money as state employees have not gotten a raise in years.

Another to do that is done is that I painted my ceiling in the bathroom tonight. I'm praying that I'm done but I suspect the cut in around the walls will have to be redone. once that is done wall paper is going up. I have a 500 sq foot apartment and I can't leave it because Trouble (my youngest kitty girt at age 12) has dementia and gets lost in the apartment we have been in for 5 years. If I moved she may never find the litter boxes.... I told myself that I have at least 2-3 more years here so it's time to make it a place that I will like coming home to and I've gotten permission to hang paper - it's temporary paper so limited to no damage to the wall. I bought a new over the toilet organizer that has a victorian flair to it and I can't wait to get it up and going. I bought a really nice white fabric shower curtain to put up as well. My colors are purple and white. My shower rod rings that I love so much are purple flower cameos that suite my personality so very well (I collect cameos). I had bought beautiful shear purple fabric to make a "roof" for my cubicle due to allergies but a new rule came out and I can't do that anymore.

~brief rant - we had a all staff meeting this week, my company let us know that they were declining a contract we have had for a while and that another contractor gave us a whole contract permanently but reducing the payment by 7%. so they let us know that technically that had 7 people that they could lay off in June when the changes were coming but, because we are such a friendly company and want to support their employees they were not going to do that however other changes were going to be in place (IE we are going to blackmail you) the dress code is changing to more formal dressing (we are in a cubicle environment, we see no one other than each other, when visitors are coming they let us know to dress up), no more socializing - if they see us taking w/another employee the assumption will be that you are socializing and not talking about work, no more personalization of cubicles, we can't use fabric to protect ourselves from the dust coming out of the vents (and it's bad, my allergies are awful there) I have a room air purifier that can only be used if there is a cover over my cubicle but oh well. I still haven't figured out how these changes have anything to do with not laying off folks ` end rant

Back to the bathroom, I got some new outlets and covers that are white instead of the tacky ugly beige and I got a new vent register that is white as well. I plan on taking all of that with me when I move so I don't have a problem buying it. I can't wait till it is all done. Then I start on other parts of the apartment. Painting the ceilings white is going to make me happy, right now I feel like I'm in a cave.

Whenever you "spruce up" a room you always feel better. I love purple, my fav color. Can you get pictures when you are done??? What kind of wall paper are you putting up? Hope the work situation goes alright for you. Work is getting harder all the time. Sooo glad my DH is out of all of that and retired. Now we just worry is Obama is going to kill Social Security or Medicare!
