The downside to healthy eating patterns...

Friday, April 13, 2012

Ugh.. what a day!

I work on a nursing unit, where even at the best of times, we are lucky to get our scheduled breaks ON TIME. The last few months I've made it a priority to eat every 3 hours, whether I am getting a break or not, even just eating while I chart just to get the food in me. If I go past the 4 hour mark - holy crap do I notice it! I get super tummy grumbly, mildly tremulous and cranky cranky cranky!!

Today was an insanely crazy day, we were short staffed a whole 12 hr day staff, had an extra admission thrown at us at an awkward time. The first person to go to lunch went 40 minutes late, so by the time I went to lunch (third and last), it was 90 minutes late.

Not fun.

Back in the day when my eating habits were less than admirable, this likely wouldn't bother me. I would go from breakfast (if I ate it) to lunch (not the healthiest) to supper (way late at home) without snacks in between and if they were, they weren't healthy! I suppose my metabolism has adjusted to being fed frequently when I'm awake!

2 Good Things:

1 - Today was my last day shift before my 2 week "staycation"! 2 nightshifts starting tomorrow (which are indefinitely easier than day shifts!) Woo! Hubby's parents are coming to visit. I'm *quite* sure I'll be blogging of how that goes...

2 - My dear friend brainwashed me into signing up for a 5k fun run in June! I'm a lot of things in fitness, but a runner is not one of them! It looks really fun, so I'm looking forward to it - I always prefer running outdoors rather than on a treadmill, and the weather is turning around nicely so I can train for it.

Have a sparktastic weekend! (My supper is still cooking - I'm working with the groggy/ridiculous remainder of my brain, okay?)

I do keep a Clif bar in my mailbox at all times - but this was one of those really rare days that I couldn't even shove that in!! Boo-urns!! Thankfully they don't happen very often!

Try keeping a fiber rich granola bar in your pocket...even if you need to sneak a "bathroom break" and have your darn snack!!!

I understand the schedule. I had gastric bypass in December and I have to follow a schedule to get get all my nutrients for the day. Being an hour late sends me into orbit.
Glad you get to go to 2nds and then stay-cation.
Keep it up!
