Hubby is back out of the hospital and cannot tolerate sugar substitutes

Friday, April 13, 2012

Hubby wound up back in the hospital again and now it turns out that any of the artificial sweeteners can make him VERY sick. So not only do we have his lactose intolerance to deal with, now the sugar substitutes are a problem and since he is diabetic this is getting to be a real challenge to figure out what he can eat.

I have finally gotten back to doing my Wii Walk it out program. I managed to walk 3.4 miles tonight on the program.

Glad you can manage to focus some on your self . Keep taking good care of you while you try to help hubby. Ask the Doctor to check hubby for CKD. A kidney diet might help him.

As someone else said..this might be a blessing in disquise. Artificial Sweeteners are bad for all of us. And it is possible, but harder, to live without them.
And, after you've been off them, it gets easier , you don't crave that sweet taste.

I wish I could say that I've gone off sweets... I am trying to cut down on them.

Glad your husband is feeling better. I wish you both the strength to stick to this diet, stay on the heathy eating plan.

My sister can not tolerate suger substitutes either. She has been able to use Stivia or Truvia as they say they are natural??? Great workout on the Wee tonight, and best of luck to your husband.

You know, it might be a mixed blessing. I've been using mainly Splenda for a while, and I thought that I was tolerating it okay. Recently I've started a diet (Blood Sugar Solution) that says to give up all sugar for the first six weeks, even artificail sweeteners. It has a lot oif eye opening reports about side effects of Splenda/sucralose, including a lot of the bloating, gasiness, and diarrhea that I thought was "just me."

Since I've given it up, though, all those symptoms have gone away. I don't know if it's because of that or the rest of diet, but it has given me something to think about. Plus, just plain fruit tastes better now to me. I'm even drinking my coffee black and enjoying it, something I never thought I would do.

Hang in there! Your husband is lucky to have someone so loving and supportive caring for his well being. -- Claudia

Oh my goodness! Have you had the help of a registered diabetes educator or registered dietitian? Just an idea.

    Hope he feels better!
