Sounds

Thursday, April 12, 2012

I took a trip to the post office this morning. On my way back I stopped at the local coffee house and then down by the lake to sit and relax some and enjoy the morning. As I sat there I noticed this sound, sort of a wet pat-pat-pat-pat. It took me a second to realized it was the ducks on the lake taking flight, their wings just slapping the top of the water as they stayed low. All I could do was smile. This beautiful sound of nature, that happens every day, something for some reason I have never noticed before in life. I started thinking of how many every day sounds that I, and I would guess many others just take for granted. The sounds of birds in the mornings, the peepers at night. Living in the city for most of my life many of these sounds were drowned out by the cars, music and general hustle bustle of the city. Moving away from it now I get the advantage to enjoy those great sounds of nature that I was lacking. I say to all those living in the city, get out to the country, or even a nice park, sit, and listen to all those sounds that have always been there. But, have just been forgotten. It's a beautiful way to spend a few minutes of your day.

:-)

Peace

Don't we live in the best area? I am so loving spring with the birds returning and all the leaves coming back on the trees and the flowers starting to bloom. Your blog was a great reminder of the many blessings we have. Thanks for sharing.

This is one of the reasons that I enjoy Geocaching, I never realized that nature was right in my neighborhood, Geocaching has taken me to amazing sites that I never knew existed.

You are right! Nothing like nature. And we too often forget that we are part of that very nature.

Absolutely agree. I live in a big city but on the outskirts and am not far from great open spaces. We have wildlife visiting our garden and that too is a wonderful thing to experience. We have foxes regular, badgers now and again. Living not far from woods the birds sometimes fly down to our garden too. I remember hearing a very strange bird sound that I did not recognise and was absolutely thrilled to see a great spotted woodpecker on the grass.
