This is a month of mostly mental battle for me. The class that I'm teaching is wrapping up, and there are lots of assignments to grade and the usual student problems (the dog ate my homework, etc). I'm also finishing a big milestone (my dissertation proposal) and our campus has been dealing with boatloads of bomb threats over the past month, which makes it hard to concentrate and hold classes. Lots of time crunches this month.
Yet I've been making as much time for exercise as I can, and I'd like to make more room in my schedule. I love being on the bike trails, and will use any excuse to spend an hour out there. I can feel my body getting stronger and when I'm on the bike, I can put some of my stress aside.
I've been looking at new bikes lately-- thinking about stepping up to one that is a better fit for my body and size. I'd like to start doing longer distances and maybe a few formal rides this spring/summer. I've never thought of myself as being remotely athletic, but maybe I need to get in that mindset. Cranking out 14-15 miles in an hour is easily within my wheelhouse now, and that's an accomplishment that I can build on!
