A wonderful surprise for us today. We watched and listened to our Las Vegas GD play Bach.

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

Our youngest son called from Las Vegas to say he had his daughters laptop and he discovered it has a web cam. Emily is home schooled, hence the lap top. emoticon
She has been playing her mother's piano since she was very young and now she is really getting in to music. She is 9 years old and I had listened to her play on the phone a few weeks ago. I have a lap top but never used the camera till recently to talk to 2 Spark friends.
I am not very proficient yet since I do not have much opportunity to do this. emoticon
I got a call this afternoon from our DIL and she said she was taking Emily to her piano teachers house and they would use the lap top there. Called back later and there was no connection there. He decided to use his wife’s phone instead. They had never done this before and DH and I had no clue about it. I actually use the computer more than DH.

I had walked 6 miles this morning on the rail trail. I came home and worked in the yard over 2 hours and when they called at 3pm I was ready to just sit for a while. emoticon

They are three hours behind us and Emily’s lesson was at 3pm Nevada time. That meant it would be 6pm here. I had to switch dinner plans to accommodate but DH did not mind.
At 6pm they called to say they could not do the lap top they were using the phone which is even smaller and hard to focus. emoticon
DH and I sat and waited till Emily was at the piano and teacher by her side, music was great but we could not see them.. emoticon
Emily played and sang the song from Beauty and the beast. We had not seen her since she was 6 years old so she was very much changed. DH and I sat together in front of the computer. We could hear the music and her lyrics but now all we saw were pictures on the wall. Eventually everything on the screen went blank and there finally was Emily and her teacher, it was so great to see her at the piano. emoticon
Apparently they had the phone wrong way round so what they thought they were pointing the camera at was 180 degrees behind. They had just realized their mistake. We were able to hear the Bach and then Skype became very blurry and skipped. Suddenly they were offline. Skype put a message on the screen explaining they were trying to fix the connection.
It did not happen but DH and I had a wonderful treat. emoticon

We had hoped to see the Grandkids in Plattsburgh NY and we were disappointed. This way we saw Emily, our son and DIL interacting on the screen and it was such a joy.
Our son has promised to set his end up better and then he will help me to use mine better too, I am not very good with “SETTINGS“. emoticon
All in all it was a great day. Lots of walking . Great company. Lots of yard work and then seeing and hearing our Las Vegas family.
Tonight I am happy. Few Spark points but even that will not dampen my spirits.
I must plan changed meals tomorrow.
Today I have 19,382 0n my pedometer, and I am really happy.
Pat in Maine.

Thank you for sharing, your blog has put a huge smile on my face. Your granddaughter must have shared your happiness. The classical composers are my favorite. Bach is so technically beautiful. Your granddaughter is certainly becoming accomplished.

On another note, your walking is incredibly inspiring!! Please keep writing your blogs, they are wonderful! Carol

That is so cool about the skype session. I would have no idea how to do that. I love Bach. He is one of my favorites. I bet you will use this a lot more now that you know how to use it.

Great day! I walk around lake winnipeasaukie in NH .

I use my I-pad to connect via FaceTime with my grandkids in Ma, Maine and Calf. I used to use my Pc with Skype, but this is much easier and my kids all have I-phones so it could't be easier...one touch of the icon and we're connected!

I homeschool too! Music is so nice especially when a child shows you what they learned in their actions. (recital)

All these new fangled electronics are very confusing. I have a camera on my laptop but have never used it. Good that you at least got to hear her play and sing and then saw her and her teacher at the end. It will all get sorted out in time.

That is so wonderful that you could see and hear your granddaughter play. I do love Skype for keeping in touch across the miles. My little GD Skypes with her uncle who is in Turkey right now but was in Scotland going to school for the past several years. Without Skype he would be missing so much, but they are able to Skype with him about once a week. You are doing so great at your walking- 6 miles! I only got in about a mile and a half today.
