Calorie Tetris

I wake up hungry most mornings.

Since my alarm clock goes off at least 10 hours after my last meal of the night, maybe this shouldn't surprise me, but it's a change that just started last week. Before then, I was fine going straight to the gym in the morning and then having my breakfast after.

So I shifted my food intake around. I started having a smoothie before the gym, followed by my usual breakfast.

The problem? I've been using way too many calories in the morning, leaving me too few for later and hungry in the afternoon.

So, now I am trying to play calorie tetris...moving things around to satisfy my hunger.

Tomorrow I will have hot cereal before I workout and my smoothie after the gym and see how that goes.

I figure this is just what you do...the pieces are different shapes, but to make them fit you twist and turn them and put them in different spots.

Meals are the same.

    Great comparison. I remember many years ago when I had Tetris on one of the original Gameboys (thing was about the size of a brick and an inch thick) and played it for hours on end. I honestly started thinking of any problem or situation in my life as though I was playing Tetris - turning the pieces, moving them, trying to get them all to fit so they didn't become overwhelming.

For a pre-workout "meal", I usually have something reasonably lightweight (for a similar reason to CherryTomato that I don't like to feel weighted down with food or like my body's energy and focus is on digestion) - just enough to break the fast in the morning.

You'll get it worked out.

    Haha, I love that name for it! that is TOTALLy what it is!!!

I go through phases where I eat before and/or after my morning WO (when I have morning WOs, which is only when hubby is home)... sometimes I find something as little as a glass of milk, or small serving of yogurt, or 1/2 cup of cereal is enough... I hate working out with food in my tummy b.c I can feel it sloshing around when I am bouncing around, ha, I hate that!

Anyways... I hope you find something that works for you!
