Measurements Day & Other Things

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

Just took my measurements. Here are the results:

Measurements:
Weight: 191 - 3/13/2012 (198 - 2/08/2012) -7 lbs

No idea what my weight is today since I don't own a scale. Hopefully it's moved down.

Waist: 32 - 4/11/2012 (33 - 3/26/2012, 34 - 3/12/2012) = -2 inch

Hips: 44 - 4/11/2012 (45.25 - 3/26/2012 (46 - 3/12/2012) -2 inch

Two inches off both my hips and waist! Not bad at all. I measured repeatedly to make sure (Didn't really believe it) and it's indeed true. Whoohoo!

Thigh: 27.25 (28 - 3/12/2012) -.75

Not quite an inch off my thigh, but I sort of expected that. They're so stubborn. However, I feel better about them from all the walking I've been doing and the running I've started with the SparkPeople 5k Rookie Running Program, so seeing that really isn't too much of a disappointment.

Calf: 16 - 4/11/2012 (15.75 - 3/12/2012) +.25 (?)

Plus a quarter inch?! Weird.

Upper Arm: 13 - 4/11/2012 (13.75 - 3/12/2012) -.75

Another yay!

Hip-to-waist ratio - .73 - 4/11/2012 (0.73 - 3/26/2012, 0.74 3/12/2012)

Total inches lost as of 4/11/2012: 5.5

So, not bad. Not at all, really. I've been jotting down what I eat in a journal, but haven't been measuring or calculating my calories. I've found just having to write it down holds me to a certain accountability and makes me think twice about things. I also recently finished the "Tame Your Sweet Tooth" challenge ( teams.sparkpeople
.com/sweettoothchallenge
) and I think that helped a lot. Definitely been eating less sweets and craving them much less, too. I feel like I should be using the nutritional tracker, but one thing at a time and for now I'm just making sure I exercise and make healthy choices when it comes to eating.

So. Exercise. I've actually found something I like and look forward to. Walking outside. It's been nice enough now (Most days!) that I can actually get out there, and I really enjoy it. I didn't have an ipod when I started, but my boyfriend has been letting me borrow his (which he hasn't used in a long time anyway) and that helps.

I've also been doing strength training exercises two or three times a week. I found out the other day that I can do "real" push ups now! I've been doing the modified version for the past month or so, and I guess it's paid off. Granted, I could only do about eight with good form in a row, but that's better than before! It kind of ridiculous how excited that made me.

What's most exciting is that I started SparkPeople's 5K Your Way Rookie Running Program last week. ( teams.sparkpeople
.com/RookieRunning
) I completed week 1 and yesterday did the first day of week two. I am sort of shocked that I'm doing this, and actually completing it. Oh, and that I'm not as close to feeling like I'm going to die while actually doing it. Ha. I tried something similar a few years ago, and had a terrible time, but I think I was doing plenty wrong. This time, I think I'm doing things mostly right, and it's working. I'm actually looking forward to going out tomorrow and training. ("Training"-?! Who is this typing?! I hate exercise, don't I? . . . Wait, I guess not. Weeeeeiiiirrrdddd.)

Anyway, my final words today:

That's a quarter pound of calf muscle from all your walking and running training! emoticon indeed!

I think I am finally going to have to bite the bullet and get a darn iPod myself. I have been resisting because I am annoyed by how tuned out everybody is, but I have a new meditation CD I really must start using, and it's kinda awkward to lug my laptop to a convenient place. emoticon

Eight "real" push-ups is probably 6 more than I can do! emoticon Keep up the great work!
