Lab results got me a tad bit concerned....

Tuesday, April 10, 2012

Ok Spark Fam,

Took some labs on Friday to get ready to see my Endocrynologist for my hyperthyroidism follow up appt. Well I got an elevated result for a test that deals with my pancreas (Amylase). All the other tests came back normal but my primary care sent me an email to get a CT scan of my pelvis and abdominal region and all of this makes me get on google, because what is REALLY going on. Bad idea. By the time I got off google I diagnosised myself with acute pancreitis. So now I am like ... you have got to be kidding me!!! I'll be 42 on Sunday and all I keep thinking is, getting old SUCKS!!!! Last year this time I found out about my Thyroid, now this year I have pancreas issues. So I saw my endo today, he said he's not concerned about the elevated levels because it's not that high but to get the CT done so that they can look at it. Then my Endo said he felt a lymphnoid on the left side of my neck but since it's only one, he's not concerned. Ok so now I'm going to be feeling all over my neck everyday. I'm telling you turning 40 has been the pits!!!

So tomorrow I get my CT Scan and I have to drink some stuff 2 hours ahead of time. My plan is to go to work, leave and go back to work. My co worker who has had one said that I may not want to come back to work. I've only been there 4 months, I don't have alot of leave saved so I'm hoping I'll feel fine. I'll just be sitting at my desk anyway.

Oh well, that's what's going on with me. Just wanted to share it with you guys.
Wish me luck!!!!

Good luck with the tests. I hope it turns out to either be very minor things or nothing at all.

At 39, I was sent to have an ultrasound of my thyroid because it seemed enlarged. Thyroid problems run in my family, so I was expecting bad news. Turned out I had a lipoma, which roughly translates to 'fat thingie'. No problems with function, and it has since either shrunk or gone away. Still have normal thyroid levels at 49.

And aren't we glad that we are NOT bodies!

I am constantly being bothered by some physical things and telling myself, "there is nothing about me that needs fixing" (forget where that is in the Course)..."when the mind is healed, the body will be, too," etc.

Sometimes the technique works better than others...it's amazing, though, that getting my mind off of a troublesome area helps get rid of it...at least temporarily.

U have more old timers' issues than you do!

Hey, 40 is young. Lots of people develop thyroid issues. I know the tests and Dr. visits can be scary but you are young and by taking care of yourself you will have a long life. So relax. Fix yourself a cup of hot tea, take a warm bubble bath, read a good book and call a girlfriend.....anything but waste your time worrying.
I also have thyroid issues after having 1/2 of mine removed. It takes getting use to to be on meds all the time but my quality of life has not been affected.

God bless. Sandy emoticon

I have had that test and I was fine afterwards to do my normal routine. I have a small blood filled tumour in my pancreas, however, my family doctor says he isn't concerned and we will just check it ever 8 mos or so. I'm sure you will do fine. The elevation may just be coming from a medicine you are taking. emoticon

Yeah 40 brings on all kinds of issues I agree, but looking at it a different way it also is a testament to our strength in how we deal with the stuff thrown our way. You are already on the right path eating right, exercising etc... these physical ailments are fleeting I promise. Do as your doc says and don't worry overly much, remember stress does terrible things to our body. I am praying that you will be fine and therefore believe you will be. Take care love, you're a strong woman, you've got this.
Hugs to ya,
Renee

Wishing you luck with your CT scan. One isolated elevated level is usually nothing. Other enzymes would likely be elevated also with a problem (like Lipase). Plus pancreatitis causes a lot of pain in most cases. Try not to worry, although I'm one to talk since I worry also :-)

I hope all this just shows up a big ol' nothing! You might feel pretty awful to go back to work, but it's worth a try. Maybe let your supervisor in on it a little once back so there is awareness.

Wow! I can understand your concern and panic . . . . I would be a mess as well, but if your doctor isn't concerned you shouldn't be.

I had my yearly pap test a year ago and my gynecologist told me I hadn't had a mammogram for a few years -- I kept side stepping the issue. Well, they gave me the script and of course I didn't make the appointment. The nurse called and asked me when my appointment was -- I was on the spot so I set it up. When I got the first call that there was a problem and I needed follow-up tests, I went into complete panic mode. Turns out I have many cysts in my left breast. Nobody seemed concern but me -- I was confused, I figured my life was over. Instead, I'm now on the 6-month mammogram plan!

I can appreciate your thinking 40 is bad . . . . . I'm tellin' ya, 50 isn't so good either - lol!!! It's all about your attitude. Stay positive and focused, think good thoughts.

You'll be in my prayers.

Hugs,

Maryan
