Fed Up Yet? You may be after you see what else is in your foods.

Monday, April 09, 2012

I was surfing through my emails and came across this email about ingredients in our food which are the last thing I ever thought would be there.

This also is another push for me to give up... I mean completely GIVE UP processed foods.

Here see for your self and let me know what you think... Who would have thought antifreeze in chocolate cake mix? See for yourself if you dare.....

Propylene glycol is not the same as ethylene glycol, which is the stuff in antifreeze.

EWWWW... As if I needed another reason to give up processed foods. I'm currently following the line of reasoning that if it grows on a plant instead of being manufactured in a plant, or raised on a farm, that I'm probably better off.

Of course, it does kind of remind me about the old comedy item about eggs. Just imagine being the first caveman to see that coming out of a chicken's rear end and wondering, "Gee, I wonder what THAT tastes like." (big grin) -- Claudia

Well, I must say it's gross, but at the same time I found the article sensationalized the topic. A couple of commenters on the actual article pointed out details regarding this. Whole and fresh is the way to go. I prefer to know where my food comes from and produce as much of it as I reasonably can myself.

Back in the day when killing and processing your own meat and pelts was a common event, and that was the only way to feed yourself, it took a lot more to gross someone out. I can well imagine how someone found out that the gland contents tasted like raspberries. Other glands are eaten such as sweetbreads (the thymus gland found near the base of the neck - well in some animals, not in beavers though). Especially then you didn't waste anything because of the difficulty and effort required to produce said food. I know some of the organs have some of the highest nutritional value, but I don't have any idea what the nutritional value of any of the glands are. You can't argue that it's not a "natural" additive though.

This information is so utterly disturbing not to mention thoroughly gross.

WHO figured out that Beaver Butt tastes like raspberries?

Life is strange, isn't it? I'm glad that Savannah and I are eating whole foods... thanks for sharing this.
