None of our children could come home for Easter this year for the first time, so I was a little depressed heading into this past weekend. My dh is a tax partner, so as you can imagine, it is an extremely busy time right now. He likes to get out and do something during the weekends since Mon.-Fri he's putting in 12-15 hr days and Saturdays are usually another 7-8 hrs. We had already planned earlier last week to go to a movie (The Hunger Games) on Saturday evening.
On Friday, I read a couple of articles from Coach Nicole regarding hiking. I've always loved hiking in the past, but haven't done much of it lately. Just no opportunity to. So, when dh got home Fri. evening, I asked him if he'd like to go hiking with me Easter afternoon at our local park. He agreed and I started making plans.
The movie Saturday was fun and a nice get-away. On Sunday, we went to Easter services early, then came home to change clothes and get ready for our hike. I packed some sandwiches and snacks, we grabbed water bottles and off we went.
It was a beautiful sunny day in the high 50's with a pretty good wind coming off the lake. We hiked for about 2 1/2 hours and just had a tremendous time. It was so good for the two of us to go out into nature to spend some quality time together! I had forgotten how much I love hiking. We both agreed that we should continue doing this, trying new trails and new parks.
Afterward, he shared with me that this outing had helped him mentally so much. My suggesting it and the physical exercise had done him a world of good after being so cooped up in his office day after day. It uplifted both of us, brought us closer together and was a healthy thing to do all at the same time! Thanks Coach Nicole for sparking the idea. :)
