Bad behavior - how to end it

Sunday, April 08, 2012

My step son is 21 years old and makes fun of people continuously. No one is left out. It really is wearing on me. He is a college drop out with really nasty teeth and he used to be a drug user so I really dont think he should be saying anything about other people. I lost it when he calls a gal at his job the fat lady. I told him people probably call you the stinky guy with yellow teeth. He shut up but was back at it in an hour or so. I usually just leave the room when he starts with the negative jabs.

Does anyone have advice how to end this? Unfortunately, he is living with us and my husband chimes in or laughs about it. Arghhh. I don't want to be a nag but it is bringing me down.

Sometimes people laugh because they don't know what else to do and just go along. Perhaps you can speak to your husband alone and say how you feel. Use lots of "I feel that" and " I think that" use lots of " I ". It's seen less as attacking the other person. But it can be hard to do.

I'm only 22 so I'm not much older. I think it would be a good idea to talk to your husband about it and express your feelings to him. If your husband talked to him about it he would probably be more open to being nicer to people. He is 21 and has the privilege of living with you. Even though he is 21, he is living under your roof and needs to be considerate of your rules.
