My Scale is a Misogynist

Saturday, April 07, 2012

My husband, who drank more wine than I did last week, ate ice cream while at the mall and snacks on cheese, lost three pounds last week. I, on the other hand stayed exactly the same. Well there is a 0.3 lb difference up, but the lbs of fat on the scale are the same (I have one of those funky digital ones) so I'm going to count it as either water or hopefully a little increased muscle from increasing my activity.

Some thoughts for the week...my cereal box also lies. Where do the extra calories come from when you are measuring everything? I realized on the 7th time I opened my cereal box (I was the only one eating it and was basically having it for breakfast each morning) that I had used up a box labeled 8 one-cup servings. So somewhere along the week were an additional 200 calories just from settling. Enough little things like that can throw you off.

This week I added up all my calories to yesterday, and divided by 6 and then subtracted 250 calories. I figure the number was close my baseline and set my new number 250-500 calories per day less. Let's see what next week brings. I'm psyched to lose weight but this not being about to get out and do some aerobic exercise in the form of long walks is killing me!

just terrific, something else to think about ( the "settling" issue). I have a digital scale, so I will weigh out 1.9 ounces of cereal rather than measuring 1 cup. The cereal box I am looking at has serving sizes in both weight and volume. emoticon

You are right Jake! I actually was doing low-carb but decided the way I was doing it was too calorie intensive. I still eat very few processed foods but one of the substitutes I made was cereal with fresh fruit for a breakfast of eggs and cheese and butter. I also thought it would "measure" easily! I'm now measuring out 3/4 of cup of cereal and counting it as one. LOL

I agree about serving sizes on boxes and cartons. I decided to help make mornings easier by bagging cereal into individual bags. You are right my box was short 1 1/2 cups. Then I tried some frozen veggies for dinner. Again, some where a part serving disappeared. Maybe I need new measuring cups....the kind the food industry uses. Because my thighs tell me the serving sizes are off.

Oh, the injustice of it all, eh! Men just lose weight easier, it seems. UGH

Well, you've got you plan in place. You'll do well.
