Back from University Hospital and very Happy

Wednesday, April 04, 2012

emoticonYep, my surgeon refused to do surgery on me after sending me through hoops and whistles. The team I saw last week said I was a good candidate for surgery but he said "No." for various reasons. I needed a sleep study, perhaps my lungs weren't good enough, I have mesh in my abdomen from that hernia surgery I had a couple years ago, I'm too FAT is the real reason.

emoticonSo, he decided radiation would be the best and I went down to the radiation department of the hospital. I will have radiation 5 days a week for 7 weeks. But, I told them I would not drive 180 miles a day to get this treatment. There is a cancer center about 9 blocks from where I live so I asked them to make a referral to the Cancer Center in Waterloo, IA. This is what I wanted in the first place anyway.

emoticonI'm very glad that I am going to get treated right here in Waterloo. So, things are looking up. The only part I feel that is sad is that it has taken so long to find out that I won't be treated in Iowa City. But, I didn't want to be treated in Iowa City anyway.

emoticonAll's well that ends well.

I am glad your treatments will be closer for you to go to. I have mesh in my abdomen too from an umbilical hernia behind my navel. I have sleep apnea too but don't use my machine, it makes me feel too claustrophobic to sleep. I used to strangle in my sleep and I am afraid with a mask over my nose and mouth, I would flip out if that happened with it on.
