Soap Box Moment

Okay, this morning I had a little issue with the accounting department at my job. When on a business trip in Chicago, I had to pay $25 extra for use of the hotel’s gym. I know. They should be free, but for whatever reason this one was not. Anyway, I figured no big deal. Apparently, they took the $25 out of my paycheck because it was non-reimbursable. Now riddle me this – WHY is it that my company will pay for as many Starbucks coffees as you can chug or an $80 bottle of wine, but NOT a $25 gym fee that’s keeping their employees healthy & happy? ::HARUMPH:: Okay, either way I’m over it & actually thankful for the experience because it’s one of the things about office life that’s pushing me to really focus on my goal to enter into the nutrition/fitness field. (A little less than 12 weeks & about 23 chapters to read before the workshop. YIKES! But exciting).
ASIDE from that ridiculousness, I received word today that one of my old friends from a theatre group I participated in at college passed away in his sleep this past Saturday. We were never terribly close, but we played opposite each other in a musical & even shared an on-stage kiss so we shared a few laughs. It’s very surreal for me to hear. He couldn’t have been more than 38 & it’s strange that this year already one of my friends & two of Jonny’s have passed. It’s the kind of thing that makes you want to hug everyone you know & tell them you love them before you leave the room.
On the lighter side, today has been a good and productive one so far. Work is getting a little more grinding every day, but I try to take it for the gift it is. Some people would be very grateful for any kind of employment & so I am too. Looking forward to spending Easter Sunday with Jonny’s grandparents. They’re very funny & don’t usually drink, so the pressure will be off.
Here’s to hoping I wake up enough to feel good about the “couch to 5k” run I have scheduled today. Wish me luck!
This guy & mullets in general are hilarious.
