Week 25 - 73.4lbs lost, But I am Still Learning.

Another week has passed, just where does the time go? This year has been zipping by, I cannot believe that we are already into April and that I am starting week 25 of my weight loss journey. So much has changed since the day I decided to change my life (all for the better I might add), and here we are, now just a week away from half a years worth of hard work and finding myself. Finding myself isnít quote the right term though. I am not finding myself, I am creating myself. Last week was a hard week. I had a lot of pain from my RSD, but I knuckled down and kept on going. I was looking forward to my weigh in today, and am also looking forward to recapping the month of March. Lets take a look at this mornings weigh-in.



I love starting off my mornings with a positive, the only bad thing is that scale is not always co-operative, but this morning my scales decided to play nice. I now weight 260.4, which means that in the last week I have dropped 2.6lbs. Woot! That is awesome. I am incredible happy with this. I have now lost a total of 73.2lbs since October 24th. This is a great way to end March, and a great way to begin April.

I know that in March (especially towards the end) my level of activity plummeted. The last week of the month was a rough one. My RSD was flaring up and the pain was bad. I was able to complete my C25K training sessions but that is about it, I even paid the price for doing them as well, because the pain afterwards was off the charts. I am happy to say though that today the pain level has gone down. I rested on both Saturday and Sunday and hoped that this would help, and it seems to have done the trick. I was supposed to start week 6 of C25K yesterday, but I will start that today. The whole month of March was not a total loss though. Here is a look back at the past 4 weeks.



The graph above shows how much weight I lost starting in week 2 of March. The first week of March was the last week of the 3 week long plateau I had. So, in 3 weeks I lost a total of 6.6lbs. 2,2lb per week, iíll take it! I have noticed that my weight loss has picked up after my plateau, I just hope that it continues at this pace for a while and that I do not have another plateau.



During the month of March I ate 1.632 calories per day (average). As you can see, I increased my in take so that I could try and shake off the plateau, and ultimately this is what kicked my metabolism back into high gear. I have learned that eating too few calories just does not work. You must fuel your body properly all the time.

Sure, you will lose weight by eating fewer calories because you are creating a deficit, but eventually your body will catch up to you and will freak out. Your metabolism will not work as efficiently and you will plateau. I am still seeing significant weight loss while eating roughly 1600 calories per day, and I am going to stay here for a while. I have also added one day per week that I call an overload day. I eat what I want and do not feel guilty about it. It tricks the metabolism and will keep you humming along at a nice pace, while also keeping you away from those plateauís.



You can see in this chart the drop off in activity. Last week was bad, but the decline in activity and the increase in RSD pain started back in week 2 of March. Still during the month I clocked a respectable 867 minutes of cardio (14.5 hours). I know I can do better than this. For the month of April I am going to try and clock 1000 minutes of cardio. I am going to try hard, but I am not going to over do it. The last thing I need is an injury that will ruin my first 5K on April 29th. If there is one thing I learned last month it is that you absolutely MUST listen to your body.

    Brett, congratulations - I am SO PROUD of you!!! I'm dealing with some back pain issues myself, that are interfering with my doing Pilates - can't lay on my back right now - so today I was looking at some alternative exercises. In the past, exercise has been good therapy for back pain, so I KNOW I need to do this! emoticon

That's a good point about the calorie count, too! I'm shooting for 1500 daily, (well starting tomorrow-today's my daughter's 16th birthday, and we're going out for dinner) which I think is a good amount for me. Time will tell (IF I can stick with it for more than a few days!). Btw, emoticon emoticon
