Remember the challenge I blogged about recently and all the status updates with "changes happening" I've been listing in SP lately? Well, the changes have been in full swing for awhile now and the 60 day challenge is about to begin. The song that comes to mind is, "the race is on and here comes pride in the backstretch...lalalala". I have been talking about this challenge for awhile because I had so many mixed feelings about it and all these little changes I've been ranting and raving about well, they've caused me to move in a different direction that what I am used to.
I will start by talking about the little changes I've been making here and there. If you haven't noticed my fitness choices have always been wild and a little crazy too. Running every type of race, from 5k's to marathons, from sprint triathlons to quarter ironmans, from a mud run to relays, from backpacking to boot camp style workouts, jazzercise, and anything else you could possibly throw into the mix. Obviously, I like variety in my workouts and that pretty tells what I'm all about. Soooo, on March 21st, I started one of those little changes with a co-worker. We like to call it our Potty Workout...teehee...I know sounds kind of funny but you'll understand when I explain. It actually started as PPT (Potty, Pushups and Triceps) but it's turned into a bit more. What happens throughout the day, Monday thru Friday, every time we take a potty break we add some other things to make our potty break a little more interesting...LOL! We walk into our company gym which is located outside our bathrooms. We do all kinds of things to help our strength training throughout the week. We do anything from pushups, tricep dips, tricep pushups, squats, lunges, bicep curls, all kinds of crunches, tricep pull downs, tricep overheads, and anything else I come up with. We figure, as many times as we go to the bathroom in an 8 - 9hr work day, why not throw in some ST while there. We only do one rep per type of ST but when you add up how many times we go potty a day, it adds up. I've done anywhere from 30 - 70 pushups or any other combination. Of course, some of the things we do are restricted to modified, like wall pushups or knee pushups because we are fully clothed in work clothes, not "workout" clothes so sometimes it's a little harder. Hey, we get our ST in every day, a little bit at a time but it still feels like it's affective.
Running, the next topic of interest for me. Yea...yea, I know...I know. I am a runner and have been for many years, however, believe it or not, I have not been consistent in a little over a year. After I ran 2 marathons in 2010, 2011 did not bring much running for me but a race here and there and some casual running here and there. So I missed it, yes, I did and last week, I decided I was going to get back into it again but this time, it's gonna be for fun and when I feel like it. Right now, I've got another goal to reach so running will be done when I can fit it in and it will be just to feel good. Hmmm, is this a sign that I'm getting older??? Nahhh.....no way!!! Just want to do something a little different, maybe because I get bored easily and I also burn out and have made that mistake one too many times. Wow....I actually feel good saying this while I'm typing this right now..."I WILL RUN FOR FUN".....that's a huge block off of my shoulder. Don't ask why, just go with it.
Heck I may even buy some of those Vibram Five Fingers and see what that feels like. Who knows, all I know is, I'm gonna have fun and feel good and continue my healthy lifestyle!
Now onto something big about to happen starting tomorrow. THE CHALLENGE! Yes, it's time to start the Bikram 60 Day Challenge and I am so ready. I was a bit apprehensive, nervous, scared, not sure if I could do it, etc. All kinds of feelings were going on trying to make the decision to do it. Well, I officially signed up to become a regular Bikram yoga practicer and I decided what better time to start a challenge than the first week of signing up. I will be allowed to take one day off a week, however, I have to do a double on one of the days. So basically, it's 60 practices in 70 days or something to that affect. LOL! All I know is I should be mighty flexible after all of this. The main reason I am doing this is to see how this makes me feel inside and out. I know for sure that it has helped my muscles recover quicker than usual. Dealing with mom, has made me realize that I need to clear my mind of all bad things and yoga helps me do that. It's amazing how solemn I feel after every practice. I'm hoping to continue my practice for life or as long as my body allows. There is nothing better than Savasna.
One last thing, I will continue Cardio Strike Kickboxing because I still need that burn. I thrive on it. During this challenge period, I'll only attend one class a week but I know it will still benefit me.
Lots going on, but in a way, not really. The main goal here is to feel phenomenal after this challenge and to continue on. I will blog periodically throughout this challenge just to give you all an update on how I am feeling. I also decided to weigh and measure myself. I think this might help me lose some inches prior to our trip to Germany too....yeah!!!
Thanks for listening and hope you enjoy the blog. Have a great week and Namaste.
