For those who don’t deal with energy or pain issues, the title of this blog may seem strange. Even to me, in my daily battles with both, it seems strange.
Somehow, the idea occurred to me this week that I have a choice in how to approach my energy reserves (or lack thereof!) I can think of pedaling or coasting.
When riding a bike, in order to get it going, one needs to start out pedaling. More advanced cyclists, of course, learn how to strengthen themselves so they can continue to pedal throughout their race. There are times, though, that coasting is necessary…even fun!
In my days as they are right now, I have the tendency to pedal, pedal, pedal, then coast while I try to catch my breath, fight through pain, or just catch up with myself. I’m in that part of the pain cycle right now where less is more but less gets others irritated with me. It’s a delicate balance, as so many other things are, and I really haven’t found the balance yet. There are times to pedal and times to coast. There are other times to draft off others, and draw from their energy. I long for some local folks to do that with, but haven't had the strength to reach out.
So there’s the thoughts that have been bounding around this week. I want to coast. I’m coasting today. I also need to pedal a little, but not too intensely.
May we find the balance we need with the day we have.
