I went to urgent care this morning. They did not think I was a fool for coming in.
The doctor I saw manipulated the lump and said he thinks it is a ganglion cyst that involves a tiny blood vessel which accounts for the blue tint. It could also be a small blood clot that will dissolve on its own.
So right now, I have anti-inflammation medication and pain killers to take if I need them. I also am to use warm compresses and to elevate it. I'll tell you that while he was pushing on it I wanted to hit him it hurt so much.
He wants a second opinion from a hand doctor because it is in an unusual place and because of the pain when I use the hand. So I will be calling the hand doctor on Monday and hope he can fit me in during my spring break, if not I will take a day off.
Treatment either way could be 1) do nothing, 2) wear a brace to protect it, 3) cortisone shot, 4) needle aspiration or 5) surgery to remove it.
At least I know that I was smart to go in today and get an opinion and referral to a specialist.
Also got an NSV when the nurse weighed me - she told me she thought I weighed 130 and was surprised by the 165! I will take that!
