Mystery Part Two (partial explanation)

Saturday, March 31, 2012

I went to urgent care this morning. They did not think I was a fool for coming in.
The doctor I saw manipulated the lump and said he thinks it is a ganglion cyst that involves a tiny blood vessel which accounts for the blue tint. It could also be a small blood clot that will dissolve on its own.
So right now, I have anti-inflammation medication and pain killers to take if I need them. I also am to use warm compresses and to elevate it. I'll tell you that while he was pushing on it I wanted to hit him it hurt so much.
He wants a second opinion from a hand doctor because it is in an unusual place and because of the pain when I use the hand. So I will be calling the hand doctor on Monday and hope he can fit me in during my spring break, if not I will take a day off.
Treatment either way could be 1) do nothing, 2) wear a brace to protect it, 3) cortisone shot, 4) needle aspiration or 5) surgery to remove it.
At least I know that I was smart to go in today and get an opinion and referral to a specialist.
Also got an NSV when the nurse weighed me - she told me she thought I weighed 130 and was surprised by the 165! I will take that!

Haven't stopped by in awhile, but wanted to let you know that I'm thinking of you. Sorry that you are stressing and have an issue with your hand (bad place!), but happy to hear that you're resolving both. And what an awesome compliment from the nurse!

Glad you saw the Dr. When I tore up my shoulder 4 weeks ago, we did all the "push down, now tell me if this hurts." Ahhhh, yes, that is the spot. And at that they missed a tear, so I have one that is not healing well or appropriately, more work on that one. I'm glad you found a dr with a good attitude. That is so much more helpful.

I'm so glad you went & got it checked out but am so sorry for all the pain you're in.
Hoping the dr is able to relive the pain ASAP.

Glad you went, and found out what it was. My concern is that if it is a blood clot, why not give you a blood thinner, so that it won't go to your heart, or your brain. Will pray for you to get a quick appointment to the specialist.
Also, happy for you about the weight!!!!

Don't know what I will do. I will see what my options are when I see the hand doctor. I have had a ganlion cyst before and it took months to go away. I can't go months with on in my palm giving pain when I use the hand. And for right now weight lifting is out of the question. I think I will go to my class and do the exercises without weights until I am cleared.

You were wise to have it checked. Better safe than sorry. If your doctor acts like you were dumb to wonder about it--get a new doctor!

Love that push on the hurt part and ask "does this hurt?" HELLO

At least you have some ideas on what it can me. I vote for the sugary if it can be removed. Are we voting or are you just going to do what you want to do? emoticon
