Losing two pounds would be a big victory for me!

Thursday, March 29, 2012

I would really like to lose those last two pounds that keep me from reaching a 10 pound weight loss. What a hump this has been for me! That would be a big milestone. I know it is tiny compared other people's big victories, but it would be a great victory for me.

I have been stuck at this little plateau for about 4 months going on 5. I lost 8 pounds and then stalled. The best thing that I can say is that I have been able to maintain that 8 pound weight loss pretty well for all those four months. That is also a big victory compared with watching those scales climb for the past 7 years or so.

After the 2 pounds, I need to lose 5 pounds to cross into safe BMI territory. Then Sparkpeople recommended 14 more pounds to get to 146. But for now, I just want to reach that two pound victory.

A plateau is just PUMA--premature unplanned maintenance application. emoticon

Goodness, I can relate. I'm one pound away from 15 pounds lost and have been there since October. But eight pounds is nothing to sneeze at and the fact that you've maintained that weight (and not gained) is an accomplishment in and of itself. You've already received some excellent advice. I add my voice to the choir.

I know how frustrating this is - some of us plateau easily. Mix up your workouts, mix up your food - some of us have bodies that adapt easily, so our bodies need to be shaken up. I have a friend who conquers plateaus by eating pot roast for breakfast and eggs for dinner - whatever works for you.

I can hear the frustration in your words and I know that it has been a long stop on the journey that you are ready to move on. I am sure you have read all the Plateau busting articles on this site. I would recommend a big change in either what you are eating or your activity level. Do you have several options for working out?
It may be that your body has gotten so used to the current routine that it is just happy to stay where it is rather than move on. Try something like eat vegetarian for an entire month or do smaller, more intense workouts for a month and see if this helps.
I am not an expert so this is just advice emoticon

Constructive recommendation: up the Sparky water intake. Weight is lost through liquid elimination. And watch the sodium. Nothing with palatable or visual salt. No dish prepared with more than (say) 500 mg of sodium. OK?

I bet you a salted pretzel this works in two days!
