Surprise!

So... The story goes like this:

A little over 2 months ago one of our two guinea pigs became ill and died. My 10 yr old daughter, who is a devout animal lover, was devastated. We went through a few days of sadness, then the search began. The kids combed the internet for a new buddy for our existing guinea pig. My 10 yr old daughter was fearful that the living guinea pig would become depressed from missing his buddy and die of heartbreak...it's been known to happen. They came across this long-haired, adorable, several week old guinea pig that was fairly inexpensive. We contacted the owner and arranged to pick him up. She mentioned that she had two guinea pigs (one male, one female). Since we had a boy, we were looking only for another boy. She sweetened the deal and offered both to us for $18. My 7 yr old daughter BEGGED for us to take the female, too, so she could have her OWN guinea pig. DONE DEAL. My husband went, with two carrying crates, to get the piggies. The owner sent them in a cardboard carrier, together. I asked if it was okay for them to be together, not knowing about guinea pig sex or WHEN they are able to have it...she said they would be fine. So, the guinea pigs came home. ADORABLE...they have such sweet and different personalities! The kids have been asking if the female, Isabella, could have babies...to which my reply has always been NO!!

Well, on Thursday of last week, after a busy day of running around, my kids went down to check on the guinea pigs. My 7 year old came FLYING upstairs, in tears, saying that Isabella had babies! WHAT???!!!! She didn't look, feel or act pregnant!???!!! I went down and found that one had not made it, I'm assuming it was born dead :( Once I removed that one, I could see that Isabella was very nervous about her babies. When she ran around the cage, we had the opportunity to see the little one....OMGOSH! SO.FREAKIN.ADORABLE!!! They are born with hair and their eyes open. Their heads seem MUCH too large for their little bodies! LOL!

We are now a 4 guinea pig family. Not by choice, I guess by LUCK! So here are some pictures of mom and baby!!

    How cute!!

We had a neighbor that had a guinea pig and so did another neighbor.

Both kids were told the guinea pigs could not play together because one was male and one was female. The kids were young at the time.

A month later the guinea pig had babies and the kids swore they never played together. The parents were laughing cause they knew the guinea pig played together cause they had babies.

Adorable! When our hamsters had babies, they were hairless blind and gross! I thought worms had gotten in the cage! But it was crazy how fast they grew, like every hour they were growing before ur eyes...guinea pigs are way cuter!
