I threw my first fitness party this past Saturday. It was a ladies only Cardio Striptease party! I used the DVD, "Dance The Inches Off: Cardio Striptease" for the event. We had healthy snack choices including a Weight Watchers recipe for spinach and artichoke dip, a hot corn dip, homemade hummus, veggie stix, multi-grain pita chips, sweet and dill baby pickles, baked low salt tortilla chips, plenty of water and a few low-cal cocktails from the SP site!
We made the mistake of eating first which made us a little too full to put a full effort into our cardio. But, the DVD is great and the instructor and the "back-up" girls were all sweating and the leader was breathing hard on the DVD. We did some of it and just as we were getting into it there was a very loud clap of thunder.... Followed by a very loud sizzle! Nope, it wasn't us at our sexy, fittest best.... It was lightening hitting something outside of my house. Very shortly after that we lost all power! Luckily for my gal pals I'm blind, so I easily found some candles and a lighter. We lit the candles and put on some music by the battery operated radio and had a good time. We danced a little more, but not much since it was dark and the storm was rather fierce. Just up the road from me there were reports of softball sized hail and a co-worker of one of the women who was at my house had her car totaled.... Totaled by hail! We had the high winds and the bad lightening, but no hail thank goodness. Someone's car is acting weird as if maybe something was shorted out by the lightening. We were all very lucky!
But, I wanted to say that I did have a good interest in my fitness themed party. I know the striptease aspect got some of the ladies' curiosity up, but it was a cardi workout and we had the healthy snacks and beverages. I'm planning my next fitness party in June and it will be a mix of water aerobics and aqua zumba in the pool to help christen my new sunroom and pool deck! I'm planning it for my birthday weekend in June. Let's hope for no thunder boomers that day!!
Have a fitness party! Get the gals (or guys or both) together and work out! Supply healthy treats and beverages and do what I had planned, but didn't do due to the severe weather and lower turn out than expected and that was a fitness DVD swap! I thank Spark People for giving me the idea and a way for my dance friends and I to learn something new and fellowship around a workout!
BTW, husband was at the movies and they did not lose power. We lost 2 portable telephones, our modem, our router and 5 breakers were flipped and all the ground circuit buttons were turned off. It could've been really bad, but it wasn't!
