I've been looking for ways to stay motivated since I know this journey is never-ending (and sometimes butt-kickingly frustrating to the point of tears).
Last week I was unloading groceries and thought, "I wonder how many of these little cans I've lost in the last couple of weeks?" I was astounded to see that my weight loss already amounted to the equivalent of TEN cans of food! So I've carved out a special spot in my kitchen to build an "I CAN" pyramid to visually remind myself of how much weight I've dropped. I was able to add two more cans to the mix after I weighed in this morning. How exciting!
If I have one of those moments when I want to complain or fuss about how difficult it is to keep that momentum going, I just glance over at my own little "I CAN" pyramid and I get excited about how far I've already come.
When I reach big milestones I'll be donating the cans to the local food pantry, then starting a new pyramid. The first big milestone I want to reach is to say GOODBYE to the "morbidly obese" label. I've got 8 pounds to go to reach that first big goal and make my first donation.
The very visual reminder of these cans reminds me that I "CAN" and WILL reach my goals.
What creative things do you do to stay motivated? Do you leave yourself visual reminders of where you are on your journey?
