Calcium, calcium, where are you?

I was amazed when read that people who took a 1200 mg supplement of calcium a day lost 6 X as much weight over a 15 week period than people who did not. I looked at my daily vitamins. Nope! Nowhere near 1200. So, where am I getting my calcium from? Hmmm. In the coming weeks you may see an increase in calcium rich foods and I will be checking out some calcium supplements. Haven't taken any of those since I stopped nursing. Hmmmm.

My voice sounds like a cartoon character today and my head is still not right, but my energy levels are back up, so things are going well.

breakfast: tortilla (40 gr), tomato (60 gr ), low fat cheese ( 30 gr, 83 cal ), ham (42gr, 40 cal), green tea, 2.5 oz lemon juice

snack: green tea, merci dark chocolate (25 gr)

lunch: 175 gr tossed salad, 30 gr yellow bell peppers, 45 gr white bread, 80 gr grilled shrimp, 75 gr grilled chicken, olive oil, apple cider vinegar, crystal light (404 cal )

snack: sesame seed cookies (104 cal), 1 tsp coconut oil, 100 ml soy milk, coffee


supper: 65 gr actifries (100 cal), 1 slice cheese (69 cal), 65 gr hamburger patty (163 cal ), 1 tomato (17 cal), 45 gr quark (30 cal), 48 gr dill pickles, 36 gr white bread, 3 gr miracle whip, green tea, 1 apple (63 cal )

    I'm struggling with my calcium. I need to get in more calcium rich foods too.

    I was taking calcium supplements and the level went too high so be careful using them. Eating vegan for a while I was doing great with all the beans and kale but my Vit D got extremely low so I am taking a super D supplement now under doctor's care. No longer eating vegan but am keeping kale and beans as a staple in my diet.

Have you made Chef Megs baked beans, yummy!

    I've missed your beautiful photo blogs (I must have inadvertently unsubscribed).

My doctor has me on 1500 units of calcium daily and I work it in with pills and food . . . for best absorption, I do a Dr Oz recommendation and take a half multivitamin with half calcium in the AM with the other half in the PM.

    One thing to remember about calcium supplements is there is that study out there http://www.webmd.com/heart/news/201

e-heart-attack-risk that found that there was an increased risk of heart attack associated w/ calcium supplements (but not from food). It somewhat reinforces my belief that the more vitamins and minerals I can get directly from food the better! The linked article guessed (but they don't know) that perhaps it was the slug of calcium all at once vs. calcium absorbed slowly from food. Fortunately, I love plain, low-fat or no-fat yogurt! (Although some fat helps w/ calcium absorbtion.)

    I was just told yesterday because of being post menopausal that calcium needs to be my best friend. If it will benefit my weight loss you can bet I'm on it!!!!! Thank you so much for the insight this morning
