I thought the best way to introduce myself through my SparkPeople blog would be to start with a video. I'm an obsessive hooper. I started in February 2011, so I'm still fairly new at it. It's helped me lose weight, gain strength and skill, tone areas that haven't been toned in a while and gain a huge amount of confidence. This video is from my practice on Feb. 2, 2012. A lot of people ask if hooping is a good workout. When you get to this level of hooping (and even months and months sooner—I've been hooping 13 months) you *definitely* work up a sweat. An hour and a half hooping session at this intensity tends to burn enough calories to make my hair look like I've just gotten out of a pool and I go through two water bottles. Hahah. From what I know of hooping and calorie burn, 90 minutes of this equals about 800 calories.
Anyway, part of the reason I'm on Spark now is because while I can hoop day after day and love it, I need to change my eating habits and start including more types of exercises into my routine. I thought this would be a good place to work on that!
