I thought the best way to introduce myself through my SparkPeople blog would be to start with a video. I'm an obsessive hooper. I started in February 2011, so I'm still fairly new at it. It's helped me lose weight, gain strength and skill, tone areas that haven't been toned in a while and gain a huge amount of confidence. This video is from my practice on Feb. 2, 2012. (I also have a YouTube channel with tons of stuff on it.

A lot of people ask if hooping is a good workout. When you get to this level of hooping (and even months and months sooner—I've been hooping 13 months) you *definitely* work up a sweat. An hour and a half hooping session at this intensity tends to burn enough calories to make my hair look like I've just gotten out of a pool and I go through two water bottles. Hahah. From what I know of hooping and calorie burn, 90 minutes of this equals about 800 calories.

Anyway, part of the reason I'm on Spark now is because while I can hoop day after day and love it, I need to change my eating habits and start including more types of exercises into my routine. I thought this would be a good place to work on that!

I don't know what in my little skull made me want to hoop and keep trying. It was a hard journey in the beginning. Personally I think the right sized hoop will most likely be homemade or made by someone that knows what they are doing.

    This was so great! Your are talented. It makes me want to go order a hoop right now lol. Seriously though cant wait to check out your other videos.I really liked the music if you would be so kind to send me a message with the song info.

    Hi Again Leslie! You truly are inspirational! I don't know how far I'll get, these things didn't come easy even when I was younger but I'm far enough in now to be hooked and we'll just see where it takes me. One thing I'm certain of; I'm having fun with it! WooHoo!

  Absolutely go for it! And keep trying! I know it took Shannon (Daimere is her user name here) a lot of struggling to get started but she's amazing and inspiring as well. If you're not friends with her you should check out her page! You can do it! You just need the right size hoop, the drive to try and patience.

    I want to take up hooping. I have tried it before a few years back with a weighted hoop and I really couldn't do it too long. But, I think it looks like so much fun. you are an inpiration to me to start again. Thank you!
