Thursday, March 22, 2012

The Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry
Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2005, pp. 129-137.

"Intermittant Fasting (IF; reduced meal frequency) and caloric restriction (CR) extend lifespan and increase resistance to age-related diseases in rodents and monkeys and improve the health of overweight humans."

"Interestingly, cellular and molecular effects of IF and CR on the cardiovascular system and the brain are similar to those of regular physical exercise, suggesting shared mechanisms."

Yes! I'm trying really hard to do this. Some days I have around 800 calories. For awhile, while I was losing weight, I would do 500 calorie fasts for prolonged periods of time. Now I'm trying to just make it part of my lifestyle- less than 1000 at least a couple times per week.
Thanks for posting that article!
