Music

Today I want to talk about music. When I was young as most teens and young adults, I spent a lot of time listening to music.

Now as most people know you tend to think the best music in the world is what you listened to as a teen. I’m no exception. Music from the early to late sixties is my favorite to this day. On occasion I find someone new I like to listen to but nothing compares to my “golden oldies”.

Tonight I was a little down at work. The days don’t go by quickly when you want to go home. I have one week left before heading toward home. So, at dinner I decided to take my Ipod to lunch in the dining room. I eat alone because I work nights.

I have to tell you as soon as I put on my “golden oldies” I was swaying in my seat and I actually caught myself dancing in the dining room. Now I would have felt embarrassed had anyone come in on me, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Music has a way of transporting you. I was young again. I was remembering all those days when all you cared about was getting to the weekend and what your hair looks like. I’m not saying my life isn’t happy right now because it is. But, it feels good to be transported on occasion to a place and time, if only in your head, where life was simpler and you felt great, where your whole life was ahead of you.

I’m not sure I have a point in this blog other than I caught myself moving to the music. So, get out those golden oldies or whatever you listened to, whether it be swing, rock, rap or golden oldies and do your walking with headphones. I think you’ll be surprised at how the time passes and you move to the rhythm of the beat.

Music DOES have a way of transporting you. It can touch a part of you that words can not convey. Those oldies are still goodies even though they were before my time. I enjoy music from many genres. Right now, I especially love praise and worship songs. There is something about worshipping and glorifying God that brings such peace and joy. God has even blessed me with some original songs. Right now I just sing them to Him. The songs have shared some with a few friends and I hope one day to share them with others. I do not have a good voice but I can make a joyful noise. I have the lyrics and melody in my heart and mind but need the instrumental music to go with it. It would be an honor if someone would sing my songs one day. Music is especially precious to me because four years ago I totally lost my hearing for about a day. That experience has changed my life. I am so thankful that my hearing was restored and that I can enjoy music and sounds!!!!
I am also glad that you found an outlet that bring you joy.

Music is a great healer. I play the cello and my music saw me through cancer treatments.
