I had a great opportunity to do a 5K in a "whole new way" today...walking! I discovered about 2 weeks ago that I have a stress fracture in the bones on top of my left foot, so no running for 4 more weeks!
Thankfully, there were more than 8,000 people at the race today,
so no one even noticed me walking!
The main thing is ALWAYS to participate...so let this be a lesson to ya my friends...walking or running, it doesn't matter. Participate!
The Dash Down Greenville is part of a larger "street party" and St. Patrick's Day Parade in Dallas -- it's all about GREEN and it's all about beer -- at least for some folks! These gals certainly did it up right with their outfits!!
So...back to our story...as always, the 3 musketeers of Dallas area 5ks are MichCleary, her daughter Rachael (RayRay, to those who know her) and moi.
When you walk instead of run, you notice the sights more...I enjoyed watching the people...and all of the families doing the event together. Loved this picture of a mom carrying her little girl on her back...there were lots of parents and children together...what a wonderful family tradition!! Start the kids young and they'll be healthier for it!
I was the only walker today -- Mich had a great PR today, her best finish since she had shoulder surgery last year. Ray and her best friend Autumn ran together - props to Autumn for her very first 5K!! Woot!
One of our favorite traditions is the "after race photos" -- the race started and finished in the parking lot that connects a Krispy Kreme Donut Store and a Central Market -- we had no donuts today, but we did enjoy some post-race gelato from the Paciugo stand at Central Market.
Oh - I almost forgot!! Do y'all have mounted policemen patroling your apartment communities?? This seems like something kind of unique to Dallas, so I thought you'd love this shot -- one of Dallas' finest, patroling the grounds to keep everyone safe from bandits!
We have a tradition of taking pictures in one of the trees in my front yard...always a fave when we get home after the race.
So Happy St. Patrick's Day to you! Wishing you rainbows, good times and healthy living!!
