Lesson Learned From The Dog

Saturday, March 17, 2012

We were out at Wal-Mart and it was well past lunch time when we went to check out. I was tired of shopping, my stomach was rumbling, and I was grouchy. Of course they have all the tempting sweet candy and savory snacks right there by the register where they are in your face. The person ahead of me had a lot of things so I was stuck there next to all of the goodies when a thought came to mind about the dog. I can put a chunk of cheese right in front of her and tell her her to leave it. She will sit there and turn her head away to avoid looking at the treat because she'll want to snatch it if she does. She won't look until I tell her she can have it. So, I averted my eyes and looked the other way. I distracted myself by watching people walk by and looking at the non food items on the opposite side like chap stick, grill lighters, and Germ X. I learned a tactic for avoiding temptations from the dog and I made it through checkout without any munchies. It's been a good day.

I have a sweet tooth and all those candy bars at the check out are so tempting. I just remind myself how many calories are in each bar and what I would have to give up to eat one.

Way to go! I have to look at those goofy magazines when I'm there. :) Hugs!

One day I thought about how much research I have done on dog foods to feed my dog the best food so she lives a long healthy life, how I portion her food to keep her at a health weight etc and I wondered if I can do this for my dog, I should be able to do this for myself.

Sometimes we should be more like our dogs :)
