I've wanted to try hooping ever since I saw MOSTMOM1's video of hooping. My hubby even bought me a hoop but I just couldn't keep it around my waist. Then a couple of weekends ago I tried a weighted hoop at Sports Authority and could not believe how easy it was but......I will not pay $42 for a hula hoop...sorry...just ain't gonna happen.
After researching a bit I found out I could make my own and I already had the tubing (1"-100 psi) which was left over from some sprinkler repairs we did in our yard. YAY! So today at Home Depot I bought four couplers at $.54 each and a pack of colored electrical tape for $4. Here is the website I used for instructions

Here is Sophia and her friends with their one of a kind hoops
And me with mine
It was a great first try and the girls are still outside playing with theirs. I made mine too heavy by adding too much water and OUCH! My waist and hips sore...probably bruised by tomorrow! Two of the girls put rice in their hoops so they make a nice rain stick kind of sound. All of us could easily keep the hoops spinning. This tells me that if you can't hoop, it's probably not you......it's the hoop. All of the hoops seemed too big. Still.......great for a first try.
Next I would like to make a hoop from 3/4" 160 PSI with out added water and see if I can learn some tricks!
Happy hooping!
