When the newness wears off...

Thursday, March 15, 2012

Do you remember when you got that new ______________________. You fill in the blank.

New Car - You didn't let anyone eat or drink in it and parked at the end of the parking lot to avoid car dings? Now you have food wrappers and crumbs in the floorboard and it hasn't been washed since the last snowstorm left it salt-grimy?

Guitar - You played until your fingers hurt. You were making great strides in that F Barre chord and you picked it up every day. Now it's in the case in the closet and your calluses are gone.

Wii Fitness Game - You played it for hours every day. Now it's gathering dust on the top of the TV set.

Treadmill - You tried all the "programs" and worked on it daily. Now it's folded up gathering dust or sitting in the garage or basement with Christmas boxes on it.

Remember when you FIRST got serious about weight loss? You were tracking your food, measuring and weighing all your portions. Getting in cardio and strength training nearly DAILY, drinking water, reading posts, blogging, participating in spark team challenges, and dropping weight on the scale.

Where are you now? What have you allowed to slide to disuse? Is your refrigerator and pantry full of healthy choices or have twinkies, chips, pizza bites, cookies, and candy made it's way back into your kitchen?

The newness DOES wear off and if you allow your weight loss tools to lay unused your journey will roll to a stop and start sliding back downhill.

Let's pick up those tools and see if we can't make some SERIOUS progress this week. Summer is coming!

Yep--the potential is always there for that to happen...you are right! Thats why daily vigilance is SO important. If we take care of each day, the weeks and months will take care of themselves.

This is what I did last week. I maintained, so I'm going to have to drop my calories some more.

Thanks for blogging.
