Book Review: The Hunger Games Trilogy

Thursday, March 15, 2012

Plot Synopsis:
Katniss Everdeen, a teenage girl from District 12 in the dystopian future of North America called Panem, is thrown into the annual Hunger Games: a fight to the death among 24 children from the Districts. Katniss soon becomes the rallying symbol of a growing nation-wide uprising, and must choose carefully how to play the ever-complicating game of the war in order to survive.

My Take:
These books are everything you want a good book to be--original, thought provoking, full of engaging and memorable characters and hard to put down. If all YA fiction was this good I would never read adult fiction again! You must read them now, but be warned don't start the first book unless you have bought the other two books or you will be making a late night trip to the Wal-mart book aisle!

****For those keeping track I have read 18 books so far in 2012---I post occasional reviews of those I find to be the most engaging. I LOVE books so if you ever want a book recommendation let me know!****

Katie's class did "Hunger Games" sports in their gym class (She was District 9) and she asked for the set for her 13th birthday. This series is on fire in her age group. Her Aunt that's a librarian in Michigan turned her onto them when they first came out and I was mortified with the premise of the book and didn't let her read them then. I thought it'd be too 'heavy' emotionally for her. I was wrong it'd been a journey for her.
    Thank you for your review.

I love this trilogy. I agree with what you said about not having them all when you start to read them. They are addicting.

LOVE THEM. I am a really big re-reader so I have actually read through the entire trilogy 3 full times since I started reading the books in January.

My daughter made me read the Hunger Games series. I am so glad she did - I really enjoyed them. Like you said... Don't start them unless you are prepared to read all 3 books back to back! LOL

You inspired me to set a book reading goal for this year -- 120. I've read 29 so far. I'm a big mystery fan and they are usually fast reads.

They also have it at Costco now. I finished The Millennium Series and understood why Stieg Larsson wrong them as a Mea Culpa for his non-action. Everyone told me to do this trilogy now. Thanks for sharing. I'm doing it!
