5K Your Way Rookie Running Training

Thursday, March 15, 2012

Today was Week 1 Day 2 of my training. I have to admit I was a bit skeptical at first, but I really wanted to try something new and I had been playing around with little jogs on the treadmill every so often, just to see where I was at. But I really have enjoyed the 2 days of wogging (walk/jogging) that I've been doing. Plus, it seriously burns WAY more calories than just walking! But also since it's been so nice out, I've been walking to the park that's about a 3.5 to 4 minute walk away from my house and wogging on the track there. It is just beautiful outside and exercising outside allows me to enjoy it even more! This morning I got to see the sun come over the trees and it was gorgeous! Unfortunately with 2 little ones I may not always get to go to the park (if hubby can't keep the kiddos for whatever reason) and I will have to use the treadmill, but I think I like wogging outside better! Of course that may change come the middle of summer when it's so hot outside that even standing is uncomfortable!

On another note, I use my phone (HTC Evo Shift) to listen to music and track my miles/time/pace while I wog. Currently I have to hold it in my hand while wogging, but today I kept getting tangled up in the earphone cord...anyone have any ideas how to help that? Or does anyone know of an armband for the HTC Evo Shift??

I am glad spring is springing too!! We took my kiddos to the park where I go to wog tonight & they had so much fun - I only played, I try to keep my workout time separate from their time because I'm afraid they will run in front of me and we'll get hurt....they are too little to understand. I'm hoping it is nice tomorrow morning before we leave for family activities so I cantry out my new armband (it doesn't fit my phone perfectly, but really close) during the third day of wogging. I can't wait to get out there!

Would it fit into the armbands for iTouch's? Mine can go in my pocket or on the treadmill stand when I run, so I don't have an armband/holder.
Way to go for starting a program! I'm glad you like it so far. I agree, wogging outside is waay better! But, when the little ones can't go out or are sleeping, or whatever, then the treadmill is handy to have. Plus, with running outside, I tend to want people driving or my neighbors to think "wow, look at her go" so I am more apt to jog and less apt to walk ;)
I was also fortunate enough that my husband's work buddies went in together and got us a jogging stroller when she was born. It makes the run harder, but I get more chances then to run outside in the sun! I'm so glad spring is springing!!!
Keep up the good work and keep us posted on your wogging progress!

Way to go on the running!! I have started a 5k program also, it's from an app I downloaded onto my iphone. Tomorrow will be my last day for week 2. Are you taking off a day in between runs? I did 3 days strait this week and could feel the burn out yesterday. I've been doing all mine on the treadmill as that is what I have time for right now. Are you going to sign up for a run?

Good luck with your training!! You might be able to look at the dollar tree on plainfield or the dollar store on 14mile to see if they have any cheap things that will hold your phone?
