My Exercise Partner

Wednesday, March 14, 2012

My remarkable dog is a special gift. After getting our dog a few years ago, she surprised me. As I started walking the treadmill, Scooter (part German Shorthair, part Beagle) embarked on a barking rant. When I stopped the treadmill, she stopped barking and jumped on the treadmill with me. An idea came to mind, I started the treadmill and to my amazement, Scooter started walking the treadmill with me standing on the side platforms, unable to exercise, I needed to come up with a solution.

I was in a pickle, I needed to exercise and not stand and watch the dog. Of course, my mind started giving many solutions but the solution I came up with is rearranging the exercise room. I placed the stationary bike next to the treadmill and attached a leash to the treadmill.

To my amazement, the solution worked. For thirty minutes, this amazing animal walked the treadmill while I rode the stationary bike. She was completely content while I was able to exercise with a partner, man's best friend.

I do have a problem with this once in a while. I need to lock the dog upstairs sometimes if I want to use the treadmill instead of going to the gym because she will whine and bark until I let her exercise with me. I am still trying to motivate the family to exercise with me and know I can do this on my own but it's nice to have a partner in crime.

Sounds like you found an option that works for both of you. That's too funny, but glad it works.

What an excellent dog and so cute too!
Thanks for the encouragement, I hope the slim fast works. Today is my weigh-in day and I gained .4 :( I think my body is really fighting my efforts but I'm not giving up! I'm going to try to make my 500 calorie meal at lunchtime, giving me an opportunity to work it off by the end of the day.
Your video made me feel guilty about not taking my cute furbaby for a walk today, I'll make it up to him tomorrow.
