Hi there to all our Spark friends, both human and furry.
Thor wanted me to write and tell you that we had to change insulin and he's having a difficult time adjusting. We switched him last Wednesday and he stayed in the animal hospital until Sat. morning so he could be watched. When we left Sat his blood sugar was 344. He's on 3 units once a day of this new human insulin. When we brought him home he wasn't very hungry and I couldn't even get 1/4 cup of food into him. The same thing on Sunday and Monday. Today he didn't eat at all this am and he was very sluggish. He walked over to his water dish and laid his head down on the rim of the dish. I called Dr. Gail and Nick said to bring him right in and we re-admitted him. He was going to get fluids by IV and be watched. His last blood sugar today was 303, so at least it has come down some. We knew it would be a challenge because we're starting from scratch to get him regulated with the new insulin. He'll be in the hospital until Friday night or Sat. morning. Nick is there until noon Sat when they close for the weekend but Dr. Gail's house connects onto the hospital which is a good thing. I feel confident we'll get him regulated once again. It's just so hard to have to leave him there and to see those sad eyes.
P. S. The good news is that he's lost 2 pounds. He's now 21.6. He needs to lose weight, but not this way.
