Cracking the Egg

Monday, March 12, 2012

Anybody out there have a new knee? My husband has one, but I'd love to hear a less awful story. My right knee hurts so badly, the ortho has said it was bone-on-bone. Two of them have said that. Maybe my visit on the 30th will turn out differently from what I am expecting. I'd like not to be nursing this thing all the time though. I'm not using my bike or elliptical. My daughter the nurse said not to do them if they hurt, so I haven't. So all I'm doing is sitting around reading outside with my granddog. That's really nice actually. I know I should be cleaning. I finally started back painting today. I'm so grateful for that. It was beautiful outside in my garden today. I dragged out the wicker loveseat and lounged under the trees. Then I ate the sausage on a bun and baked beans that Harry made. Not a great choice. I promised him that tomorrow I'd make corn fritters. (He loves them and I haven't made them for a long while.) I'm hoping to lose weight anyway. (Why not? I can hope.) I have lost enough so that I don't always look like an egg. It's better and I'm glad about that. Here's my garden:

No knee comments, but your garden looks beautiful. I wish I could do something that nice with my back yard.

    Beautiful garden!

As to knees, I have a knee with bone on bone for quite a few years now. That is the knee that I just dislocated, so I am happy it moved when it needed to do so. Mine doesn't hurt so much yet. The doc says I should wait to do a knee replacement. If you are in a lot of pain, perhaps a consultation with an orthro doc would help?

I found this cool link from Coach Nicole regarding how to exercise when you have limited mobility. I am going to get the resistance bands and start doing it when I can bend my knee again. Here is the link (or copy and paste):

Scroll down and look at the 20 minute resistance band workout link. I think I would be motivated to do this as it looks easy and you just do the whole thing in a sturdy chair!

I have had my hips replaced and heading in the direction of knees...I can say for me however, i use a recumbent bike that helps the leg muscles carry the joint...the more I get those in shape the less pressure on the actual knee joint..but the regular bike works against me..Has to be a recumbent and i have to stay off of ellipticals and treadmills.. There are new techniques and if you don't wait too long possibly your surgery will replace less than if you try to wait it out..
