Daylight Savings, Sugar, and "Eating the Right Stuff"

Monday, March 12, 2012

I love longer days, more daylight and the idea that spring is all up in my face with these mild March temps we are having, But I must confess, I ushered DST in with a whimper yesterday. Maybe it was because I attended a fundraiser the night before, staying up later than than the norm, but I was just more tired than usual after the time change. Despite knowing that I should have gotten dressed and gotten out for some fresh air and sunshine, I parked my fanny on the couch, barely moving to get some laundry washed, dried and folded. Except for the trips to the kitchen. I had no trouble getting up to feed my need for carbs.

Which made tracking my sugar cravings quite interesting. Seems like the more tired I am, the more cookies I crave, and the more tired I get.... and so on. It only seems appropriate then, that this week's focus on Stage Two of the sparkdiet is "Eat the Right Stuff." I certainly did not do that yesterday. I did well last week in being mindful of portion sizes (let's not discuss those pesky portion sizes from yesterday - 'nuff said). This week's goals will be to eat a good mix of healthy fats, good carbs and proteins, planning a weekly menu, setting a tone for the weeks to come. Today was a good start. I did get 3 servings of fruits and veggies (the minimum for this week) and I haven't over eaten anything. Hmmmm....maybe that's why I was still hungry after dinner?

you will get it figured out and conquer those sugar cravings. What has really helped me is Almonds. I probably grab some daily but usually only need to do it once and only about 5-8 of them. Somehow they satisfy and even distract me from other cravings and I kind of believe that I feel better when I eat them. Well, I'm telling myself that.
So - was it not a fabulous day here in Jersey? I took a 2 mile walk in the woods - heavenly!!! Here's to a repeat of today on Wed!!!
