MARCHing on……

Monday, March 12, 2012

There are more than 10 million registered Sparkpeople world wide. 11,739 registered the same week I did which makes me part of the team “SP Class of June 20-26, 2010.” There’s only a hand full of us from that week that are still blogging regularly and just a couple of us that huddle every day. There’s no telling how many others are still Sparking or who have restarted or how many times they have. I do know that in two days, on March 14, 2012, there will be 100 days until my 2nd SparkVersary, my 65th birthday, and the first day of summer. So I’ve decided to make every day count towards those special days and see just exactly what I can accomplish in the next…

I’ve had wonderful success since joining SP and until this February was losing weight monthly. Some time in January of this year my hip began giving me problems. I had retired my cane but had to get her out again and reduce my exercise program substantially. Pain is very debilitating, both physically and mentally, especially when you’ve been feeling and doing so much better and all of a sudden you’ve lost control over what you can and can not do. I’ve watched many of my Sparkfriends struggle with illness and medical issues that raise their ugly heads just as they have found a clear path to healthy living….

Some times it’s not a health issue… finances, family problems, spiritual conflicts, old habits that are sparked by emotional issues like anniversaries of sad or painful events can wreck havoc with our resolve to get healthy. Some times we are our own speed bump.

Never the less, these challenges are all a part of life. Some days are a breeze and we blow through them unstoppable, filled with a sense of purpose and determination. Some of those days get strung together and we look back and think “WoW, who was that girl???” Other days we stumble along and wonder, “What is wrong with me???” There’s nothing WRONG with us. We are human, physical beings learning and growing as we venture daily through the school of hard knocks. This is when we pick ourselves up and March on!!

I believe, for me, that attitude is foremost in how we exit and enter each period of our lives. We can not expect to be perfect or without flaws. We are bodies in motion…. works in progress. There will be challenges, physically, mentally and emotionally. Some days will be better than others so grasp the good days with both hands and ENJOY. Because these too shall pass, as do the tough times.… remembering

“Your living is determined not so much by what life brings to you as by the attitude you bring to life; not so much by what happens to you as by the way your mind looks at what happens.” ~Khalil Gibran

We all have our own set of keys… Do not put your keys to success in someone else's pocket; keep them in your own.

For me, Winston Churchill said it best….

“Never give in. Never give in. Never, never, never, never--in nothing, great or small, large or petty--never give in, except to convictions of honor and good sense. Never yield to force. Never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy.”

Life is not the enemy….

“We do not live an equal life, but one of contrasts and patchwork; now a little joy, then a sorrow, now a sin, then a generous or brave action” ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Life is the challenge. I’m ready!!!!!! Are YOU?

Jenny B. referred me to your blogs. What a gift you give to all who read them! Thank you so much for sharing these. WOW! We all need positve thoughts and to realize we aren't flawed; only human. Always I think of Cher in one of her movies with the advice to 'SNAP OUT OF IT!' We sometimes will sink into the 'mire' of life because that IS life, on occaision. Love the 100 DAYS idea!

What we believe in our heart gives us our mind set, or set mind or our attitude.

Believe in your heart and soul that you can do what ever it is you need and want to do and you will do it and then do it with all your heart, soul and body and keep you mind set on progress and smiles and laughter, and singing, and dancing and moving and never give up or quit just keep living life to the fullest with each new day because each new day is a brand new start to a brand new life. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

JENNYBAKER247 referred me to your blog. I agree with you, our attitude is everything. I have known people in the hospital that were terminal and yet were able to convey beyond their failing bodies, a positive attitude, in such a way that I came away feeling blessed myself for the opportunity to visit them.

I really liked the speed bump analogy. It comes at a tough time I am having right now with my eating.

I'm one of the ones who joined the same week you did, I'm still here, off and on. I do have to say though that when I slack off SP for awhile and then decide to come back and be more active, your blog is one of the first places I hit because you have such an amazing attitude, I keep hoping it'll rub off on me. ;)

Keep up the work, you're doing great, and motivating other people along the way.

Enjoyed your blog - you have a wonderful positive attitude and that can make all the difference in how we respond to life and its challenges. Sorry to hear about your painful hip - not sure what you do for exercise, but going to the pool is helpful for me - I have arthritis in my knees, so doing land exercise is painful. The water helps take the pressure off joints and makes moving so much easier.
Hang in there, and as you say, never give up!

Great Blog can I join your challenge. Actually I have less then 100 days. I am having my second knee replacement in mid May so I am really trying to lose as much as I can by then but I to stalled out in February and March. I keep going up and down the same 5 lbs. We seem to have a lot in common. I also am God's child and a grandma and deal with daily pain. I am going to befriend you I hope you don't mind.

Linda Love your blog. So inspiring and you really hit the nail on the head for a lot of us. Your back ground picture is really beautiful. Sorry to hear about your hip, have you been to the doctor to see what is causing the pain. Have a great day and the best of luck with your challenge.

First, I want to tell you how much I enjoy your background picture! My heart lightens every time I see it!
Second, your words ring so true for so many of us. There are times I just jog along on this journey but those times are balanced by my stumbles over the speed bumps (I've even fallen into a few ditches along the way!). The important thing for both of us is that we just keep plowing forward and are learning to overcome any obstacles we meet along the way.
I was really down yesterday with some hurt feelings (family, again) so made poor choices BUT I've jumped over that speed bump and am back on the road.
Stay strong and determined. You truly inspire me to keep going!

Love the blog and love your attitude more! You have such a wonderful sense about how you are approaching life, and all that it throws your way. Wishing you much success over the next 100 days (and beyond!)

Linda, absolutely love your comments today! So very true and right on the mark! Imagine all that can be accomplished in 100 days...WOW!! You will make incredible and awesome progress, I'm sure, and I'm pulling for you (us, actually) all the way! Love and hugs, Jeannie

PS...I'm assuming you've had the hip evaluated, right? I doctored for a year or so before I finally saw an orthopod who recognized the arthritis for what it was. Now, with 2 new hips 5 years ago I have NO hip pain. What a relief that was!! Best to you, Spark Sister!!

Linda, You are such a smart and wise woman--absolutely love your blog and so agree. I'm really sorry about your hip pain. Doesn't it seem at our age in regards to medical problems it's just a matter of time--so glad you're handling it well. It is all about a healthy and positive attitude and living our lives to the fullest. Wishing you the best in the next 100 days as you've had great WL success so far. Like they say, You've come a Long Way, Linda!!
