Weekly Weigh In

Monday, March 12, 2012

I missed last week – whoops!
No big deal. I checked the scale today. Even though it was only down a little, I’m still pleased with it. I have been ravenously hungry lately. I know it is due to the HM training. I remember this happened last time. Instead of getting upset at how hungry I am & trying to make it on not enough food, this time I’m eating as needed – which feels like almost constantly, LOL. It’s ok. Really. Things will get back to normal in less than 2 weeks – WOOT! My race is coming up on 2/24.
I’m also not going to concern myself with any kind of weight loss until the race is over. Seriously, this hunger/marathon training + me losing weight just doesn’t mix. This means I probably won't reach my goal by Easter, but I'm ok with that. I much prefer being off a couple of weeks than starving.

My eating 10g of sugar or less a day isn't going to great. I know that I'm eating less sugar than I was, I'm just not hitting that goal of 10 grams. Pooey.

I did my 12 mile “dress rehearsal” Saturday. I pushed myself faster than my LSR ever are. I didn’t stop to pee. I just kept going. I felt great the first 9 miles, then the last 3 everything hurt from the hips down. Today my quads are still a little sore so I skipped my Monday run. I’ll do it tomorrow instead.
I’d better be UNDER 2:30 for my finish time or I’ll be ticked off. I should be able to do it as long as I don’t get injured. Fingers crossed!

A few weeks ago I noticed I was having trouble focusing when reading my Bible or when I was on my iPod. Today was the first time I've had my eyes checked in about 12 yrs. I’ve always had good vision but I figured I was getting old people eyes & needed reading glasses.

Well, I DO have excellent distance vision at 20/15. She said that was better than 20/20. My close up vision isn’t the best which is common for people with great distance vision. Anyways, the el cheap-o Wal Mart reading glasses isn’t what I need. I need some regular ones. I won’t have to wear them all the time, so I’m looking forward to having them. This is totally new to me so it is making me giggle. Me. Wearing glasses. Haha!
The kids & hubby had a fun time helping me pick some out. Hubby, of course, kept picking ones that looked the worst. Since I don't have to wear them all the time I picked out some colorful ones. They are kind of a greenish turquoise. They may have brown on them too...I can't remember.

Anyways, on to the weigh in!

02/24/12: 129.4

good luck with your goals and it's nice to see someone excited about glasses I've had mine since the 5th grade but I only wear them for reading things far away because they are just a pain in the rump. It's awesome to get funky colored ones it makes ya feel more girly we girls always need some more girly added to our wardrobes :)

Nice and consistent. Just what I expect from you. Enjoy the half. You have a lifetime to train and pay attention to your weight. Seems like changing focus occasionally is good to keep motivated.

Good job on the consistent losses. You know you ALWAYS lose when you're focused...ALWAYS. You don't seem to hit those plateau's that most people hit. I guess the key then is to stay focused. So easy to say..right? :-)

Congrats on your 12-miler! You've got this! If you're hungry, eat! Training includes making sure your body is properly fueled.
I've had glasses since I was a pre-teen, so there is no novelty in it for me - I hope you picked something fun and funky, especially because you don't have to wear them all the time.

Great Job Amy, You motivate me so much with your running abilities! I think eating more would be a tough one since we're all so use to watching so close!!
Glasses are kind of a pain, worn them forever~tried the bifocal contacts but didn't seem to work too good! Some of the frames for reading glasses are so cute, tempted to get a pair fo reading at night and give my regulars ones a rest!!

Keep up the great work, I'm so excited for your half!!

I think you're doing great, Amy! And I'm so proud of you for your running abilities. Look how far you've come since last spring - AMAZING!

As for the glasses - we need a pic! And, yeah, I agree with the others - getting old sucks. I have contacts - one for near vision - one for far vision. It's an odd combination, but it works for me and all the computer time I have at work :) Good luck adjusting - I'm sure you'll look adorable in them!

Sounds you are doing really well with the running...you have totally left me in the dust, girl!

I've had glasses since 2nd grade and contacts since 8th. My eyes are so bad that the eye dr. says I have "built-in bifocals"!!! But I'm having trouble with small print lately. Oh the joys of the 40s!

Congrats on the 12 miles this weekend! I got in 10 last weekend but could barely walk for a couple days after. This weekend I only made it to 6.5 but at least my ankle pain didn't stick around like it did last week; feels fine today! Welcome to the world of glasses! :) I am really excited about the Alton HM, and I hope we can make connections- I am so looking forward to meeting a Spark Friend in person!!! :)

I remember how ravenous I felt during my HM training, too. It's definitely better to get enough to eat right now. Just make sure you do good recovery runs in the weeks following your HM. I didn't, and my body held on to everything expecting me to run it off.

Oh, MY! Eat up, girl! With all the calories you are burning, you need to watch that deficit more than anything else, right? And any weight loss is a good loss, no matter how small.

Grr. I hate my eyes now. I really have avoided the eye doc for a while bc I knew I needed bifocal something, but hated my bifocal contacts last time. I just didn't wear them. This go-around I went back three times before I was satisfied with my contacts. One is for near, one is for far. It is not perfect, but as my doc said, they are good enough that I am "motivated to wear them." There is no "perfect" bifocal contact, and I can't do the bifocal glasses. I also have readers for when I am in bed without my contacts. Getting old stinks!

Best of luck with your training, and your race!

Amy~ You're doing great! I think you're right about not losing weight while training for the HM. You need to keep fueling that body! Hooray on your 12 miler! WOOO!
I am with you on the glasses thing. I just had to get bifocals last month! I wear sunglasses constantly, so I never really wear my scripts. So, I got prescription sun glasses this time to remedy that problem. I only wear the ole bifocals when I'm reading or watching the tube.
Post a pic of you in your new specs! I bet you look so cute!

Agree with Lisa, we need a pic of the new glasses.

I need to stay away from the scale too cause it is not liking what I am doing anymore.

Good luck on the HM, you will rock it!!

Down is good! Sorry you have old lady eyes. I'm still hanging my hat on not needing them (for now). I know it's unavoidable. At least you never needed glasses! I have had glasses since 5th grade and started wearing contacts at 12 because my eyes were so bad. You have to post a pic with your new specs!

Sorry your quads are complaining. But good for you for even passing up the potty! You're going to have a great run next weekend! I was so relieved to get that last long run in yesterday and it's all downhill from here. I'm looking forward to "normal" running again after this!

You are doing great!!! The fact is you NEED more calories when you are training! As long as they are calories from real food (and not... Well... Maybe cheesecake?) don't stress about it! The fact that you are still losing - even if only half a pound - is proof in itself that you are doing just fine!!!! Yay you!!!

Down a little is still good. Especially since you are in training mode. No wonder you're hungry.
Baby steps....you'll get the sugar down.
Ouch...poor quads :-( Fingers crossed for under 2:30!!
With age comes reading glasses. I'm waiting for the day that, as my sister says, I'll be blind. I'm nearsighted. So there are either two pairs of glasses or bifocals in my future.

Of course you need fuel to keep up with all that running! Can't wait to hear about your HM. You've been training so diligently I know you will get that goal time. Your new glasses sound really cute! Thumbs up all around!!
