Lenten Church Dinners

Monday, March 12, 2012

With this gorgeous weather we're having, walking is a lot nicer. I walked my tush off on Saturday, so much so my shins and hip were ouching the next day. No matter though, I still did a little walking on Sunday.

We've been having Friday Lenten dinners at Holy Ghost Church on the south side. They have a nice selection of two fish choices, cole slaw, mac and cheese, pierogi casserole, cabbage noodle, and soup plus coffee, and choice of cakes. So far I've only had their crab cakes, cole slaw, a little mac and cheese, one ladle of chowder and coffee, no dessert. Our church is having an ethnic buffet after 4 p.m. mass on Sunday the 25th. That's gonna be a tough one to get through. We have parishoners from a few closed neighborhood parishes and the food could be Italian, Polish, Slovak, Lithuanian, and Hungarian. Great combination. Tickets are on sale after masses for $5.00 - can't beat that price.

Well folks, have a wonderful day, enjoy the sun. I'm off to walk outside and do some shopping at Aldi for a few things.

Onward we go SP Crusaders! Friends til the end! One day at a time!

So YUMMY! Our Lady Queen of Peace in Brodheadsville is having a bunch of stuff happening on St. Patrick's day too with their traditional $10 Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner, step dancers, bag pipers, simultaneously with the Basket of Cheer raffle, Early-Bird summer picnic raffle, 50/50 and the Carmelite religious articles sale (in time for Easter, Confirmation, First Holy Communions, etc). They're pulling it all together, for sure.

one of my favorite parts of lent is the weekly community meals hosted by our KofC at the Holy Family Club too! Way to go keeping away from the desserts!

I'm not sure if I could make it through the ethnic buffet... That could be really dangerous!

The Ethnic Buffet sounds as if it will be quite a challenge, but looking at the line-up of
countries, they don't usually load up their dishes with a lot of fat, maybe you could have a cup of soup before you go, and maybe you and hubby could fill your plates with different foods and share. Have fun. emoticon emoticon emoticon
