A Helpful Book

I have a stressful job and the belly fat to prove it
I know that stress = cortisol production = fat storage. I am reading this wonderful book right now. So wonderful, that it's the kind of book you want to tell EVERYBODY about so that they can benefit from it too.
It was actually a pop-up when I was web surfing. 99 times out of 100 I won't bite when I get those but this one was worth it. It is from Rodale (publishers of Prevention Magazine), and it's called The Mind-Body-Mood Solution by Jeffrey Rossman, PhD. I have struggled with depression for years and don't want to return to anti-depressants (disclaimer - don't want to discourage them for those who find them helpful, I just had too many unpleasant side effects). In my case depression is a result of trauma, lack of sunlight, sleep, proper nutrition, and an overabundance of sugar. I am using the techniques and tips to work on each of my problem areas and feeling really good about it. Miracle of miracles, I have cut so far back on sugar and have been able to do it with minimal discomfort by replacing it with fruit. I finally got off of Diet Coke last week and the headaches weren't awful - I had weaned myself down to 1 can a day and have been successfully diet coke free for 5 days now. I am trying to prepare my evenings with the quiet calm-down I need to assure a peaceful night's sleep. I am eating lots more protein, lots less carbs. I am learning breathing techniques to reduce stress.
Bottom line, I am feeling better about myself. I have a long way to go. But I am hopeful! Next to my scriptures, this book is on my bedside at night and in my purse by day -- it is so helpful. I hope you can find it at the library or put it on your to-read list!
