Even though the weather is being absolutely bizarre, I'm still trying to get out and enjoy it. We had a blizzard a week ago, and today it was 61 degrees and sunny. Needless to say, most of my beautiful snow is gone, and along with it my chance to do some more snowshoeing. I managed to get a few pictures when I got out on the snowshoes.
Loved the icicles hanging off this little branch.
The river doesn't get much more beautiful than this.
Or so I thought until I looked upriver... ;)
This is the path that I normally take to get to one of my favorite walking areas. It's a little snowed in.
I really wish the snow would have lasted longer, so that I could have gotten out more. It really felt as though our winter was only here for a couple of weeks. Now that most of the snow is gone and the ground is nothing but slop, I'm wishing that it would just hurry up and melt the rest of the way. There's still a lot of snow and ice back in the woods where I like to walk, and it makes the going quite difficult. There's a lot of gullies where the streams that feed the river have cut deeply into the land, and the banks are usually quite steep. Most have some form of land bridge that you can cross, but there is one where some enterprising fishermen placed a wooden "ladder" to cross on. Unfortunately for me, the steep slope leading down to the ladder was almost sheer ice, and so I had to crab-walk down to it or risk falling into the feeder stream! Was quite the adventure though. Lost my earmuffs back in the woods somewhere, and I doubt that I will ever find them again. I wandered quite aimlessly out there! I need to wise up and quit wearing my tennis shoes out there, especially since one has a hole in it that just loves to let in the snow. ^_^
With the weather improving, I've been getting out for hike/walks more often. I'm really hoping that this will do great things for my weight-loss efforts, especially since it has already punched it up a bit and gotten me down to 191! I'm so excited. I haven't been this low since some time in high school! I wish I knew exactly when, but I became very disillusioned at that point in my life and gave up even looking at the scale once it hit about 185 or so.
Coming up in the beginning of April I am going to be taking my niece into the city on our annual "Birthday Shopping Spree." She saves up her allowance, birthday money, the change from the couch cushions, anything she can get her hands on. I give her about $30 for her "birthday money" and take her all around town. We do lunch, shop 'till we drop (or run out of money), maybe see a movie, and just make a day of it. I'm going to have her help me shop for some new shirts, since I realized with the BLC Weekly Challenge of Spring Cleaning that most of my wardrobe still consists of all the clothes from before I began losing weight. Needless to say, not much fits nicely anymore!
I'd do a happy dance, but I'm so tired...went out "walking" (read, slipping in the mud) again this evening and it wore me right out. Now it is time for some well-deserved sleep, and then back to the grind bright and early tomorrow!
