I haven't jogged in...er...well, since my first job, a decade ago. Yikes. I was absolutely positive that at my present weight and poor fitness level, jogging would be murder on my knees. I avoided it like crazy, especially since I got a darn fine workout just from quick walking. Unfortunately, to be able to have anywhere near the kind of 5k time I want, jogging is necessity.
I started the "5k Your Way Rookie" program today. It's supposed to take 8 weeks, but I have an extra three to work in before my race day. Whew. I thought the one minute of jogging for every four walking would kill me. Instead, it felt kind of good! Granted, a woman with a bust the size of mine (one with its own gravitational pull) is never going to be fully comfortable while jogging. That part I'm sure I'll feel tomorrow. I might feel the knees tomorrow, too. My feet hurt, but not any worse than they normally do, and the jogging actually seemed easier on them than walking. Score!
I am now exhausted. In two days when I go back, I'll have to pay better attention to my body. The last jogging interval pushed me up into anaerobic levels and I started to have a hard time breathing as well as feeling a little lightheaded afterward. My lungs are just not equipped yet. (Or it could be the exercise-induced asthma. I should go get my inhaler prescription filled.) Still, aside from that minute, it wasn't so bad at all! Oh, minus the chafing because I made the poor decision to wear my workout skort because I sat in the baby's banana in my workout pants yesterday. OUCH. That, I think, was the worst part!
I also took a little time to walk outside, since the hubby had the baby for a few hours. It was windy, and I might pay for that later. But I was only out there ten minutes. I discovered that downhill walking is absolute murder on my ankle. Nothing else I did today made it hurt, but halfway down the incline, it felt like it wanted to explode. Won't be doing that again soon!
I *jogged* today!
How AWESOME is that?!?!
