Managing the Holidays

Yesterday, I stayed within my calorie range. You might ask, pray tell, why is this such a big deal? Yesterday was a major Jewish holiday called Purim. Without getting into too many details, Purim is a holiday where we celebrate the fact that someone (Persian Empire) tried to kill us (Jews), but they didn't (hooray!) and now we celebrate (eat a ton of food).

Did I mention that this 'they tried to kill us, they didn't, let's eat' theme is basically the undercurrent behind almost every Jewish holiday? Well, it is. Which means we have a lot of fun holidays, and a lot of opportunities to go way over our calorie range.

But.. I didn't! I ate a ton of salad, some chicken, eggs... and yes, half a hamentashen (triangle shaped cookie with yummy jam filling in the middle). Which I am pretty sure I forgot to log... whoops. I'll go ahead and do that now. Anyway, let's see if I can get through this weekend.

Did I mentioned that every weekend, on Shabbos (Hebrew for Sabbath) we make enough food equivalent for to Thanksgiving meal? Do you guys feel sorry for me yet??

    This post explained so much! I had a Facebook friend who posted something like "I puked. It was a good Purim," and it had me really wondering what kind of holiday could possibly be good if it made you puke! You've provided me with the answer, although, I'm with you....it would feel better to have salad and eggs and not get so full you overflow. :)
