OWL Day 3

Friday, March 09, 2012

I had a cheat yesterday. I had a salad with ranch dressing, and 1/2 a bag of grapes with my steak, skipped my green beans. It was a chef salad, so ham, turkey, and cheese, HB egg, and 3 cherry tomatoes. Can't really say it was cravings, but it sounded good with steak.

I am back to chicken today, hope it didn't throw me off plan too much. Mostly worried about the dressing. I think I had 3 Tbsp.'s, and the Ranch was SOOOO sugary. I would have had more, but it tasted bad if I had too much on a piece of romaine. Kind of sickening actually. Maybe I just wanted some greens. It has been a while since I had a salad. Next time I will have to make my own salad, and dressing. Skip the processed meat, and sugary dressing. I think the damage was minimal though, At least it wasn't Zinger's, and Pepsi.

Got my walk in today, and foot feels good. I am going to get more chicken from the Amish place, and swinging by Aldi's to see if I can do my shopping there. The meat selection is woeful there, but I get all my meat, butter, and eggs from the Amish market, so all I need is toiletries, and canned vegetables basically. I prefer No Salt vegetables though, so will have to either see if they have frozen , or No Salt veggies. It has been about 4 years since I have been there, so maybe they have these too, but their selection is smaller. I love that they pay their employees so well though.

*******************political message to follow************************

I am a democrat, but I have been shopping at Kroger.. a Union place of work, and they pay the employees terrible. At Aldi's they pay almost double the wage with no union. I know as a democrat, especially from MI, that it is sacrilege to criticize unions, or support non-union, but shouldn't we care more about the lives of the employees. I want to shop at Aldi's who pay VERY well, and they take care of their employees. My brother was at a Union hall recently for a Democratic meeting, and as he left, someone commented on him driving a " foreign " car.. our Nissan Versa. He opened his door, and showed the guy that our car was 95% MADE IN THE USA. The guy's Chrysler ( Fiat ) was 40% USA made. Shouldn't we support companies that make Americans lives better, by giving them a job, and feeding their kids???

So I am choosing to spend my money where employees are treated fairly. Aldi's pays better than average, as does Nissan. GM pays $14 an hour now. So does Aldi's.

******************** End of political message***********************

Today is only gonna be 36 for a high, and by Sunday it will be 62, so I just need to turn the thermostat up to 80, and survive today.. it is cold!

Hope everyone is having a great day, and has a wonderful weekend!

we have Aldi here in the UK too, we have another german supermarket called Lidl as well.

I have a Lidl close by, but Aldi is too far to be worth going.

Salad dressing... told you about balsamic before, another neat thing I just found, sounds disgustingly pretentious and trendy *laughs* but I got it in the turkish food shop for cheap, no idea if you can get in the US... but its pomegrante mollasses and you mix a little with a vinegar to make dressing, its really tangy and... like sweet and sour I guess without being at all sickly.

    (((hugs)))
No wonder I love you, Russell!

Aldi works their people hard, but, as you say, they at least get compensated well. And I'm sure the people at Kroger work nearly as hard for a lot less.

I think what I admire most about Aldi, though, is their no frills "you don't really need the mood lighting to buy groceries" attitude, but it's definitely not for everyone. I know people in my area who will pay twice the price to shop at Giant Eagle because they like the tile floors and bullet spotlights.

I dunno. I don't really feel the need to make my shopping experience into an...experience.

I'm bad about dressings too. I can make a nice salad and then "wreck" it (nutritionally) with dressing. I tend the same way with dip veggies. I get carried away with the dip!

I check my Tracker some days, and it looks wonderful! until I get to the dips and dressings

Gotta learn to behave myself better.

Thanks for posting. You seem to be really working it...even with the sugary salad dressing. :) The awareness is half the battle right?
