ACCENTUATE THE POSITIVE, Eliminate the negative

Last night I had a restless night, not that I didn’t sleep but I tossed and turned and usually when that happens it’s because something is bothering me. So, I cycled thru my day to pinpoint when I became bothered and I finally got my answer. Last night I was reading a blog from one of my “Sparkpeeps” and the blog talked about how someone she cared for made negative comments about her. The blog itself bothered me that someone could be so hurtful but what really bothered me was a comment on her blog – needless to say I thought the comment was nasty and uncalled for.
I think this blog was just the “tip of the iceberg” as I start to notice that we are just a negative society. The news all the bad stuff is first high unemployment gas is too high and at the very end we may hear about the “good Samaritan”. In this weight-loss journey I have notice that not everyone is happy for me and these are people that are close to me and they make stupid negative comments thinking that will throw me off track. And don't even get me started with the negative post/comments on Facebook. What in the world is wrong with us that we continue to try to break each other down. I guess the saying is true misery loves company.
One the best things I have ever done was join Sparkpeople. Sparkpeople is not only a community that encourages healthy living but provides a wealth of information. One thing I’ve learned in this journey is healthy living and fitness regimens are not ONE SIZE FIT ALL that’s why there are so many out there – there is something for everyone. Everyone is different and that stands to reason that you will have a healthy lifestyle and fitness regimen that fits you. Some are Vegans, some are low carb and the list goes on and on. Whatever your healthy lifestyle and fitness regimen is - you ROCK IT and keep doing what works for you. And because it works for you is no reason for you to “knock” what someone else is doing.
When you read the millions of articles that are out there about health and fitness, retain the info that you believe will be beneficial to you. As for the articles that you don’t think will be beneficial to you, that is not your time to TRASH the concept and post a negative opinion it is not for you so purge it and move on because someone else may have read your negative opinion and you may have dashed their inspiration/motivation.
I’m not saying that constructive criticism isn’t okay because sometimes we all need a kick in the you know what to get us going but there is a way to be critical and positive at the same time. Telling someone who has found an excuse to skip their workout for a week that they are lazy or making excuses is not the positive way to help motivate someone. Telling that person that we all have bad days but let’s start today and I’ll do it with you is positive and motivating.
My pastor always says “what you make happen for others will happen for you”. So if I want people to celebrate my success than I need to celebrate others successes (and trust me I love hearing everyone’s success stories no matter how great or small). If I want people to be sympathetic when I am just not feeling it then I need to be sympathetic when my “Sparkpeeps” need me.
The next time you read a blog or an article or you are talking to someone – if you can not be positive or offer some constructive criticism then do not respond – you do not know who you are breaking down with your words.
I just want to thank my “Sparkpeeps” because I have been one of the fortunate ones where I think I’ve only gotten one negative comment. But other than that one negative comment you all seem to always make my day and put a smile on my face. Keep up the SPARK and lets keep it POSITIVE everyone – don’t be a HATER be a MOTIVATOR.
