I bit the bullet for a Curves membership

Thursday, March 08, 2012

I had been taking classes at the town rec center for the past 2 months. I've enjoyed them but having to dedicate 2 mornings a week was getting to be a problem. Then for this month, I had an appointment at the Health Dept. to get my Yellow Fever shot in anticipation of my trip to Africa in May, so I missed one of the classes, and would miss a total of 9 more classes because of my trip to Hawaii, so I didn't sign up for the month of March. I had been to a Health Expo the town put on a few weeks ago and the Curves people were there. It sounded interesting and the flexibility they offer was a real draw for me. The price was about the same, and I could go 6 days a week. They usually charge a "registration fee" of $99.00 (yikes!) but this month they are waiving the fee if you donate a non perishable food item for the local food bank. I donated a bag of Great Northern Beans from my pantry (never had a bag of beans worth $99.00 before!) and will pay $34.00 a month for a year. I did the circuit today and it really is fun. I've been doing stretches for over a year now, and after the circuit you do stretches. They were very impressed with my flexibility, so maybe that part of my pretty much "non exercising" has paid off. So I am beginning a new phase of my SP journey...one I should have been pursuing all along. Guess I'm a "late bloomer" in that department!

They give Travel Passes for Curves, so if I can get to one that isn't under water, I can get my money's worth for the month of March!

I have thought of going to Curves for the 6 months I am in the Raleigh Area since my insurance will pay my membership. I am so thrilled with water aerobics for my old body that I wonder if I can handle exercises on land. In summer I can do the water aerobics in back yard, but sometimes the pool is too cool. Maybe I should give Curves a try and it would break this plateau.

You'll find the membership fee is well worth it! There are several members of SparkPeople who are also members at Curves.

    Have fun! emoticon
